Q: Can I lay or sit on this heating pad?

As a Registered Nurse, I would like to tell you that the instructions for EVERY heating pad should be NOT TO LAY or SIT ON IT, because that is a safety precaution to help you avoid burns to your skin. I have used a heating pad for neck and shoulders pain relief for years, usually laying on it over my shoulder and have been fine. However, I know many people who have been burned by laying on it any way. Be smart about it, using an abundance of caution - check the heat area often and allow it to cool off completely periodically if you need to lay or sit on it.

Q: Can you set the heat pad to stay on, so that it doesn't shut off automatically?

As far as I can see, there is no way to disable the auto shut off feature. I believe for energy saving and safety reasons to prevent any possibility of harm, it will shut off after two hours unless you simply restart with a push of the button manually.
