Totally lame
This is a terrible product. Here are some examples of why: You have to have it plugged into power for it to report temp, humidity and sound, so if you want to measure any of those things it has to be near a power outlet (or on an extension cord). If you unplug it the smartphone app fairly quickly shows those functions as being disabled, but if you plug it back in it takes forever to re-enable them. The temperature is always wrong by about 10 degrees and the humidity is always wrong by about 20%. The light sensor, which is supposed to tell you whether the ambient light level is bright or dim will rarely report light changes. I can place it in a dark box and even after waiting quite awhile it will not report that it's in a dark place. I can shine a bright desk lamp right down close on top of it and even after waiting a long time it will not report that it's in a bright place. The sound sensor that's supposed to be able to report when there is a loud sound is unreliable and erratic. I can clap loudly right next to it, whistle loudly right next to it, drop it six inches onto a table, or a variety of other things and it won't report any of those things as a loud sound. The so-called motion sensor does not detect motion of people moving through the area, rather it detects when the device itself is moved. Although I haven't been able to figure out exactly what kinds of movement it thinks are important: changes in orientation, vibration, sharp shocks, gentle waving....? The only way to check on the status of the device, and get these reports, is through the smartphone app. The smartphone app (even with updates through 29aug14) is awkward, inefficient, confusing, and a whole new kind of lame. It's one of the most confusing and useless smartphone apps I've ever seen. There's more, but that's enough to give you the idea of how useless this thing is.

piece of crap
If you are still reading this after seeing the ratings for this product, I hope this review makes it clear. This product is an absolute disappointment (read: crap). There was scant instructions and I had to even google how to open up the battery cover. I thought this only happened to cheap plastic electronics I get from China (even they had some proper instructions to set up their products). Further frustrations were abound. The thing will not connect to my android smartphone and just kept flashing from orange to red to green then back red. The app u need to download for this thing to work sucks, and barely offers you any help in troubleshooting the issue, and their official workaround was actually for u to delete and redownload the app again ( Hey Quriky, doesn't that tell u something is wrong with your app??).The thing also has absolutely no feedback except for the stupid flashing light, and no buttons to reset the thing or what not. Its just a glossy white piece of plastic that tries its best at imitating simplicty and minimalism while forgetting how frustrating it can be. So all u can do is keep deleting and downloading the app, let your phone flash its screen at the tiny window of hope on the top, and pray to god that this thing will finally work.Well, it didn't. Finally, after 1 hour and scouring through the forums for workarounds and seeing the thing flash its freaking psychedlic lights for the 6875th time (I lied, its only about 24 times), I decided this thing was really not worth my time and trouble of getting it to work.Best lesson I learnt from online shopping in a while, worst $40 bucks I ever spent on Amazon.

Actually worked - I was worried based on the reviews
I heard bad things about this unit. And I think it is unavailable in a practical sense. Nicely packaged - fancy. There was a small hiccup in installation forcing me to view the video to see how is was done. You had to shine the iOS device on the sensor to get it installed (that weird flashing wasn't a poorly programming installation sequence!). If appears you have to keep the unit plugged in to use all the features like temperature and humidity. The battery compartment is a bit hard to open. I think it pops off rather than being twisted off. The user manual is a PDF in the app which makes it a bit of a chore to review.I got a great price on this unit. Not unhappy. I do wish Wink had other sensors available, particularly one that does not need to be plugged in. And water level detector would be most welcome. This is the generation 1 unit. There is another generation 2 design that I've determined was not sold publicly. I believe this unit is now out of production. Good luck finding one.

"quirky" updates to sensor readings...
This sensors readings don't update on call and don't update with a schedule that follows any predictable logic that i've discovered. But, it's useful enough to use as a trigger for other quirky devices or IFTTT events

Works super well - 4 star rating only because you need to use AC adapter for all 5 sensors to work - AA batts only run some of the sensors. When it's running, works great witht he app and other smart devices.....especially if you use IFTTT

Product will NOT work any more as of 2016. It was disabled by Wink to prevent use.
Do not purchase. It has been disabled by Wink to no longer function.I you try to install it, the Wink system will not even allow you to proceed and the Wink system itself has the message,"This product is out of production and no longer supported. Please return to the seller from whom it was purchased."This isn't me, this is the Wink system itself. I contacted Wink/Quirky and they said the product should not be used and thus has been disabled by Wink to prevent use and should not currently be offered for sale.Apparently, from google searches, this happened early 2016 and a lot of people were pretty upset by this. They had to upgrade to the second version. I don't know what was up with this first version that they thought it had to be made non functional. Weird on the Wink/Quirky part. But either way, it's a paperweight now as of later in 2016.
