Excellent overview of vastly underrated rock guitarist
This is a gift for any Hackett fan. If you are one of these, you know already that he IS a brilliant guitarist who was the victim of poor band politics in Genesis and left as he was being marginalized compositionally. Tony Banks seemed to rule the day during ‘Wind & Wuthering’ denying Steve his proper due. But later, Banks would have to give in to the Phil Collins onslaught and both he and Mike Rutherford had to cave inartistically while reaping the financial benefits. This left Mr. Hackett to go it alone, and he did so and still does (as of 2022) with mixed financial success but maintaining a greater artistic integrity. All the hihs, lows and in betweens are captured very well in this book. I’m confident that nearly any Hackett fan will learn things here and enjoy the recaps along the way. As a Steve Hackett die-hard fan, I am delighted to own this, highly recommended!
