It did its job perfectly the first time, and for a fair price. An excellent buy
I purchased this stud finder to assist in hanging a heavy picture in old drywall. The only way it would work is if I managed to find the center of a stud. This stud finder was easy to use. I set the middle switch to stud and pressed the small button on the left side, where my right thumb naturally holds the device. When it was against the wall, the screen shows it's on but no stud is detected. When I got to the edge of a stud, the edges of the triangle in the middle of the screen began to fill in, and when I reached the middle of the stud, the stud finder emitted a notification tone, the triangle filled up, and a red arrow illuminated on the wall just above the indentation on the device, making it very clear where the nail should go. I really like the guide slot and arrow being idiot-proof. I was able to nail the stud the first time with this device, and it worked perfectly for a fair price. My heavy picture is now hanging safely thanks to the Zircon e50-FFP stud sensor. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone needing to find a stud. 5/5 stars

Efficient and cost effective
Great aid in finding studs, headers and any wood to which drywall is attached with by steel/iron-based fasteners, typically screws. Can be used without any other finding tool, but I use it with a stud finder to help eliminate the false negatives and false positives that often occur with stud finders. If the stud finder reports a stud AND this tool locates the fasteners associated with the stud, then you can be sure that you have truly found a stud. Otherwise, you can't ever be truly certain because stud finders can be inaccurate and the worst can be so inaccurate as to render them worse than useless. Great product. I'd give it 10 stars if Amazon offered that option.

Works - but don't bet your life on avoiding live wires.
This review is for the Zircon StudSensor e50-FFP. Just a note - it arrived with NO manufacturer's packing box - just a cardboard box and some bubble wrap; no warranty information, etc. Looked like they grabbed a used one and tossed it in the box, except that it doesn't appear to be used. I didn't take any stars off of the review, because that's packaging, not how the device works. I did leave a somewhat less than stellar review in the 'packaging review' section. The sensor itself works pretty well; I have some open back walls in the basement which allow me to try the sensor on the wallboard side and check the accuracy on the open 2x4 side. No issues. I would NOT recommend that anyone trust their life to this gadget for pointing out electrical wires or plumbing pipes. For the price, for the typical DIY homeowner, I think the Zircon e50 is adequate if used judiciously. I like it better than the earth magnet types - it seems to do a good job of finding the studs even when there are no nails to be found. I've an older Zircon (a couple of decades or better) and this new one works much better. Make sure you have a 9-volt battery handy - mine didn't come with one. The e50 is at the low end of the Zircon models; at the market price you really can't expect to get batteries, too. If you need a sensor that can point to the center of the stud, rather than the edges, there's an upgraded Zircon model that reportedly do that. For my DIY uses, the e50 should be close enough. HTH Regards, Jim

Great price and very accurate
To quote My Cousin Vinny this was dead ***** accurate! This worked very well. I purchased after my cheap black and decker stud finder died, so after reading some reviews I decided on this guy. It's pretty nice and very easy to use, though I don't quite get the DeepScan switch. It like all stud finders, it will throw you off if you turn it on while you are on a stud. Ensure you are on an open space of the wall then turn it on, now as you slide it across the wall, it will give you a good leading and trailing edge of a stude. I just hung a TV and was able to locate 2 studs perfectly so a large 6mm lag bolt hit center.

Vital to Prevent Wall Anchor Destruction
Gives an accurate idea of where wall studs are located. If you don't use this before trying to set a screw in a hollow wall and you hit a stud, your wall anchor will likely destroy the sheetrock. If you know where the stud is, you will know where to just use a screw with no anchor. Many wall anchors will bend back towards screwdriver if you hit a stud or beam. This often enlarges the hole past repair, or even crumbles the drywall (and wallpaper). I always blamed the anchor type. Possible but no, usually a wooden stud or beam is behind the wall.

Can be a bit confused by modern apartment construction.
Got because we didn't want to hang a picture on apartment dry wallboard alone. The device is very easy to use, and works as designed. Instructions also indicate where there might be confusing readouts, and how to adjust to refine the reading. Overall it worked, and we are secure that we haven't damaged a wall or put things in risky places. Four stars instead of five only because we couldn't get a consistent reading in one or two places without seeing AC potential where we're pretty sure there wasn't any -- but not having the apartment wiring blueprints in hand, maybe it's right and we're not! Played it safe... and that alone means we're really giving it a 5, and us the 4. Good purchase.

Better To Have, Than Not Have
If you are looking for a wood stud behind drywall, this tool is worth having. When using it to find studs behind 1/2" textured drywall the edge location consistency was variable by 1in. This tool required repeating the scans many times and patience, but mostly works. The wire warning indicator alert went off many times where there are no wires in the wall. The wire warning alert was useless.

Good stud finder but it should be highlighted better that it does not come with a battery. Must purchase your own.

Works well. Easy to use and appears to find the studs reliably and with good sensitivity. Worth the money.

I don't use this very often, but I use it whenever I drill holes in the wall. This thing works great at detecting metal in the wall and is well worth the investment considering the potential issues of doing damage to your house by drilling into other supporting structures and safety concerns if drilled into electrical wiring. I've had no issues with this tool and it's easy to use and read! It works!
