Solid Build and Good Support
Just got our rower a couple days ago so I'll update this sometime down the road to comment more on the quality over time. However, initially impressions are that this is a solid, well built piece of equipment. The first one we received actually had a defect in the manufacturing and the wood was slightly bubbled and split on top where the belt idler pully was mounted. We contacted Amazon and it was picked up at our doorstep and returned. Unfortunately, we had to wait another 3 weeks but then got a brand new replacement at no charge. I found that the water pump did not work well and was taking far too long to fill the tank so I just free poured into the tank - it can be done ... carefully. Providing a funnel would be better than the plastic pump mechanism. The instructions could be more clear (they seem to be somewhat English vocabulary and grammar challenged) but they were easy enough to follow. A couple of things that would make the instructions a lot more functional: 1) it takes 6.5 gallons of water to fill the machine up to the calibration line (not in the literature anywhere so we didn't know how much distilled water to buy at first) and 2) we had no idea how much water clarifying powder was supplied with the machine or how much 1 gram was to add to the water tank so we bought a scale from Amazon to figure it out. Approx. 23 g of water powder was provided with the original purchase and, for anyone who doesn't have a scale, you can turn the water tank plug upside down and fill the empty cavity in the bottom to about 2/3 full. *** UPDATE *** We've had the rower for a year now and we've been using it every week (off and on) with no problems. We don't use the control panel that came with it - there are many apps out there for rowing so we use our phones instead. We did not stay on top of the regular maintenance like we should have so the water quality got bad. Not only did we not empty it and replace the water every 2-3 months, we didn't even make sure we put the algaecide powder in as recommended - I'm sure we're not the first to let this happen. So, today, I used the pump to empty the rower and I realize now that the pump does actually work - it's a bit tough to get it going and keep it going, especially when the rower water level is at the same height or lower than the bucket (see photo) but, with lots of hand pumping, I was able to almost completely empty the reservoir. I estimate that there was about 0.5 gal of slightly orange colored water left after I got everything out I could with the pump. I decided to try replacing "most" of the water and then adding a large does of algaecide to see if it cleans it up well enough and then I'll try to stay on top of it going forward. I thought this would be better than trying to move the machine outside and turn it upside down to empty it. I think keeping the water clean and clear is going to be a challenge and I might think about buying some chlorine and pH balancing chemicals to manage it like a hot tub but I'm sure most people will not want to do this. Then again, maybe the maintenance can be simplified to doing nothing at all - what does it really matter if the water gets a little cloudy and slightly orange colored?

Not bad, not great
Got the machine a few days ago. Very easy to assemble, eight screws for side runners and that’s it.Filling it up with water is annoying but I suppose that’s normal with any water rower. The instructions say to use distilled water.. good thing I have a source of that at home, the whole thing took like 8 gallons of water, would have been very annoying otherwise. The machine is very quiet. Water noises, but no actual creaks or loud mechanism noises. It’s quite good.I’m 6’1” and 250lb. Some fat, some muscle. Not too out of shape. With this machine filled to max level, I absolutely get a good workout from it. Not sure what the other reviewer here that mentioned it being too easy was on about, this thing works well. Now to the drawbacks and the reasons for three stars:1- the only way to change resistance on this thing is to change the water level. This wouldn’t be too bad if there was an easy way to open the water tank. Once you fill it up and put in the plug, that plug is in there good. Not “never coming out again” good, but definitely a “I’m not looking forward to ever taking it out again” kind of good. This is reassuring for leak prevention, but not so much for any kind of water level management. Leaving the plug off isn’t an option, once the machine is in use, there would be a shower coming at you instantly.2- the foot straps are very smooth and really hard to keep fastened. They get loose very easily. Apparently this isn’t the worst possible thing according to pro rowers but I’m not a pro. I need me some straps so I don’t go shooting off into the distance. Definitely annoying but also really easy and cheap to replace with better straps, so… not the worst? Still not great.3- and this is the worst by far. The attached screen is just absolute garbage. It tracks distance, calories, time and something else… but all on separate screens and with no real.. semblance of reality to any number to it. The only thing that it works well for is tracking the time you’ve been working out. And it pauses when you stop, so that’s good. Everything else about it is just absolute garbage. I did a 10 minute workout and it told me I’ve burned over a thousand calories. All the numbers on the screen do is just go up some amount as you go. There are no settings to put in any information either. Also, and this is the MOST annoying thing about the included screen. It does not track your strokes per minute OR watts. There is quite literally no way to judge the intensity of your workout using it.Overall. I’m not too upset with this thing. It’s half the price of machines that wouldn’t have these issues. It’s sturdy and quiet. It provides a good workout and all the issues with it aren’t *that* big of a deal. By far the worst is that there is no stroke per minute counter. I don’t know if I’d recommend it to anyone that isn’t going to pair it up with a secondary device to keep a tab on the workouts or something though.

Your Search Stops Here - The Best Value Rower!
I spent days searching the internet and Amazon for the best rower for the money. I watched every YouTube video you can find on rowing machine comparisons. Quite simply, Hydrow seems to be the nicest and sleekest, but it didn’t fit my criteria for two reasons. The Hydrow, unlike the name implies, does not utilize water. It uses magnets which is the less common form of rowing resistance. You have the fan style such as the Concept 2 which is the staple of rowing machines, however, the fan is loud and did not fit my use case. You have magnetic resistance like the Hydrow, and you have liquid resistance such as this rower. While there’s nothing wrong with magnetic or fan resistance, nothing will get you as close to the real feeling of water resistance as… water. The harder you pull, the more resistance, that simple. Plus, you get the very soothing aspect of the sound of waves crashing in your home which is much more appealing than a loud fan when you workout next to your sleeping S.O.The other aspect of that Hydrow that did not fit my use case was the price. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Hydrow and if I had the budget I would no doubt go straight to that one and saved myself a lot of time spent searching… but if you don’t know if you’ll like rowing and you want to try it out and see if you’ll take it serious, or you just plain and simple don’t have nearly $3000 for exercise equipment, then you’ve come to the right place. This rower does not give you a large touch screen with instructor-led classes, nor does the built-in display even give you accurate metrics to be honest.. but it’s built solid and it looks nice. Best part is the price. Most rowers on Amazon are not designed to allow you to complete a full rowing motion, this one does. The sliding seat is comfortable, the handlebars are the right width, and it’s overall a well designed and built machine for the price. And if you really want those instructor classes, there’s a holder to prop up your phone and let you watch your own classes. YouTube is your best free option, but Apple now has rowing classes that utilize an Apple watch to track your metrics which helps overcome the inaccurate metrics of the on board computer.Your search ends here, this is the best Amazon rower!

Quiet and sturdy. Squeak was easy to fix with WD-40.
I just finished putting it together and trying it out. I’m very pleased. It is similar to the name-brand Water Rower I had.I put it together in about 15 minutes. I added 7 gallons of water which took the water level to the marked “full” line. The plug is soft plastic/silicone and, with twisting, left about 1/4” that would not fit into the hole. This is good! It means the seal is snug and, if the plug wears, it can still be tightened later.I left the machine upright, water line above the plug, for about 20 minutes. No leak that I saw. When I tested it, it was quiet then a loud squeal developed after 3 minutes. This is not due to the belt, the rotating parts just needed some WD-40. After a good spray in several areas, it sounds just like my old water rower did. Sweet. I added a pic of the area I oiled. The foot supports are silly, way too big for my size-9 feet. I just put some old crocks in them. It works.I don’t care about the display, I use my watch. So when purchasing, I had decided beforehand that I didn’t care if it was accurate. It’s nice that it has a place for my iPhone.I’ll update this is problems develop, but for now I’m quite pleased. The solid wood is a nice touch, the thing feels really solid.

Loud screaming noise from fan
Hello! Really need some feedback from the customer support team or anyone who is familiar with this machine. I bought it 9/1/2022 and it was perfect up until one month ago. Making it less than a year old. Delivery, assembly, placement, and use were all perfect and I can change my rating to five stars if I am able to correct the issue. The machine now screams when in use. It's as loud as someone blowing a whistle. It is not usable anymore because it will wake up or disturb everyone in the house. Its something from the fan in the water tank or inside the mechanics since the noise happens only when you're watching the fan spin inside the water tank. Please help and thank you!
