How to Be Good at Math: Your Brilliant Brain and How to Train It Review: Great for At Home Teaching or Supplemental Help for Homework - I got this book because I saw it at one of the math centers my child attends. It's a great book because it has clear images (most in color) and very concise explanations and multiple examples of various math fundamentals. This is great for the advanced math learners in K-1, but also for regular students who need additional help with explanations to understand core math fundamentals. Some of the topics covered include addition & subtraction, multiplication & division, fractions, rounding, prime numbers, geometry (2D and 3D), lines, and even simple algebra. It's a great book if you don't have strong math skills but want to help your child, or if you just need another way to explain math to your child in a way they can understand. This is not a math work book for your child to do problems, but more of a reference guide. It's geared for kids ages 7-11 (according to the cover). The book also shows clearly, how to line up your numbers when adding so that the values are in the correct position. Review: FINALLY!!! - I am a first year homeschool mom. I have always been horrible at math. We decided to homeschool our kids this year and I was terrified. I have always been horrible at math. This book has been a lifesaver!! For the first time ever….. I can say that I am good at math!! I have zero problem’s teaching my kids. We can look at the examples and easily complete math problems. My kids (elementary and middle school) actually told me that math is now their favorite subject because they understand it better, me too!! Buy it!! Don’t hesitate!!!

Great resource for homeschool!
This math "visual guide" gives clear instructions and really good visuals. You need to order the workbook separately!

Excellent book but...
I wish there was a hardcover American version. The UK version has a great reference in the front and back of the book. The American version doesn't.

Wish I'd had this book as a student
I love this book for what it is, which is a book about how to understand mathematics concepts. It is not a textbook, so don't expect it to be one. I got this book so I could help my 2nd and 4th grader with math (I'd completely forgotten how to do long division and multi-digit multiplication, among many other things). I struggled with math all through middle and high school, and it brought down my A average in every other class so that I ended up being a C student. Teachers wouldn't provide extra help to me because I was "so smart, just not trying hard enough." Basically, I lived my life as a student believing I was stupid because I couldn't grasp the math concepts that my peers had no problem with. I was still stuck in 10th grade Algebra as a senior, and it was humiliating. I ended up not going to college because my confidence was destroyed, and I regret that every day. I'm in my 40s, so it's too late for me now, but I won't let happen to my kids what happened to me. And this book, going through it on my own and quizzing myself and actually understanding concepts I never did before, is a huge win for me. But also difficult, because if I'd had a simple, graphic, step-by-step learning method like this book, the entire trajectory of my academic life may have been different. I'm not saying this book is a life-saver, but...well, maybe I am saying that. It could be, anyway. 100% recommend.

Great for a large age and interest range
My math-obsessed 7 year old takes this book to bed with him. He has taught himself about prime and square numbers. I think this book would be a great fit for later elementary and middle school age kids who are interested in math. It's also a good read for teens or adults who want a brush up on mathematical concepts. I'm weak at math, and looking through the book with my son has been a great refresher.

Absolutely wonderful book! Great visuals to explain concepts.
Very happy with my purchase. I bought one a few years ago and it got left behind when we moved, so I bought it a 2nd time. It's helped my daughter see math concepts in full color and I like going through it too. I also bought the "How to Be Good at Science" book for her. Both are fully illustrated in full color on thick, quality pages. Great for kids and adults.

Every Math Teacher of K-6th Needs This Book!
What a wonderful bright easy-to-read helpful math book for teachers! I don't like math, but this book was a life-saver and truly, now I enjoyed teaching concepts which I understand completely now due to this easy book! There are NO dittos, NO lessons for students to copy--it is purely just a "tool" for teachers/parents. I love this book!
