I don't know where to start with this book, I've struggled throughout my life with depressive episodes, so this book hit some deep places inside my mind, I understood Brooklyn in a way I thought I wouldn't, not the condition she has but the thought outside her condition if you know what I mean, the characters are Flawless in there own right, J.Rose wrote them superbly, Eli, we have a shared trauma from childhood although I didn't suffer his kinda plight, a different type of one, but I connected with him on a different level, what I'm saying is this book is mentally dark, but if you're like me you can read and enjoy it for what it is, but not if you are easily triggered.im not, it's dark in a different mental minded sense, it's bloody, raw and real. really very good writing, lots of angst, passion, spice is 4*, I've read spicer, what a twist at the end, the dark secrets that blackwood hold I need keep reading.

Twisted Heathens is Book 1 in the Blackwood Institute series, a Reverse Harem set within a mental institution; discusses several different kinds of mental health disorders. I really enjoyed this aspect of it we got to see a little bit of how certain MH illnesses can affect others in different ways, and I hope to see the author touch up more on this in the next books.I enjoyed the unique plot: we have our FMC—Brooklyn—who’s been sanctioned to a mental institute. Her goal? Well it’s easy… kįll herself before the impending anniversary comes up. What I loved most about Brooklyn is that she’s such a broken character, yet she’s also a fighter and she’s got more strength than she gives herself credit for—especially as you see her constantly battling with her own demons.As for the guys, I enjoyed reading each of their characters. With each of them being tortured souls and no one deals with their trauma the same they each have their own distinguished habits. Each of the guys held a rawness—especially my poor baby Eli—that you couldn’t help but fall in love with them—even Hudson who began as hate-to-love relationship.First off you have Kade who comes across as the more responsible mother hen, who’s a bit of a control freak but mostly just wants to keep his family together and not have them tear in two. Phoenix is all smug smiles, clever talking wittiness who uses humour and set to deal with everything. Hudson is Kade’s adopted brother, a big grump but ultimately would do anything ti protect those he cares about. And Eli, well so far he’s my favourite; my heart bleeds and belongs to him, he’s the baby of the group in the sense that everyone would do whatever it takes to protect and make sure he’s okay.Each character holds their own complexity in one sense or the other and I loved seeing the dynamic between Brooklyn and the guys, as well as the obvious shift the guys’ relationship took when Brooklyn came into the fold.Overall, an enjoyable read that keeps you interested especially surrounding the ever growing mystery that in Blackwood Institute; as revealed towards the end, all is not what it seems at the institution and I can’t wait to uncover more of the mysteries in book two.NOTE: to those thinking of picking up this series please check content warnings before hand as this series has a pretty extensive trigger warning list!!

It was dark and twisted and I got sucked right in to the world of The Blackwood Institute.It was extremely well written and the plot was fast paced and had plenty of action with twists that kept me hooked and turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next.And I loved the characters and the chemistry and tension between them. They are all complex characters and are fighting their own demons while also trying to keep each other from falling apart.I can't wait to read the second book to see what's next for Brooklyn and her men and find out just what is going on inside Blackwood.
