Design Patterns Explained

Want to understand basic patterns? Buy this book.
Prior to purchasing this book I had attended a OOAD course, explaining basic patterns, and studied a number of books that included the GoF "bible", so I already had a basic understanding of design patterns. However, what makes this book very good is that from all the books I have read this one offers the best introduction into world of OO design patterns.Although the book explains the very basic patterns, its purpose is to teach you how to understand patterns so that the concept applied at understanding the ones within the book can be used to understand the more complicated ones.I only wish I had bought this book before buying the more reference type books because I would have saved myself a lot studying time. This book is aimed at those that want to start to understand the design pattern concept, although it can also be used as a reference book for the limited patterns explained.

Good book, not really aimed for C++ users
I would agree with the other reviews here. For such an abstract topic, the book read very easily, a much better tutorial-type guide than the GOF's very dry reference. The C++ examples were obviously added as an afterthought - they are missing method declarations and implementations, especially in Chapter 9, the Bridge Pattern.

Ideal for beginners
I recommend this book for those who wants to learn more about object-oriented design than the basic concepts. This book many times quotes the well-known book "Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software", but all the patterns in GoF's book are not explained.

Impressed.
It arrived a lot sooner than I expected it to be delivered. Nice!
