La Vecchia Dispensa Balsamic Vinegar 40yr

I bought some for my 40th birthday - ya know, try something 40 years on the 40th.I have mixed feelings.On ice cream, it was completely lost. On strawberries, it was good, but not great. I really don't think it would have been much different than a commercial grade balsamic in that regard.The only place it shined was on a nice block of parmagiano-reggiano.... and I think it may be a case of the cheese making it shine, though they did work well together.I don't want to fully ding it, hence the 4 stars, until I've tried a "Tradizionale" as a baseline for comparison. Almost assuredly though, the remainder of my bottle of this will probably just end up as some really good salad dressing, or a finish to something in a skillet..... but not as something as stand-out as on strawberries or even sipping.
