New Life Spectrum Cichlid Formula - 2000 g (70.5 oz)

Great quality food that all my fish love. I've been using Spectrum food for years and highly recommend their products.Just a heads up, it is in a resealable bag, not a bucket.

The fish can't get enough. I waited a few months to see how good this food was before writing any kind of review. My fish are bigger, healthier, and their colors are off the chain. Everyone who see's my fish cant believe how nice they are. Don't over feed your fish this food, it will make the water cloudy. The manufacturers have put garlic into this food to help with the fishes immune system (apparently). All i know is the water smells like garlic, and when i can smell it, i then use it as an indication for a water change. This is not a feature i think Spectrum meant it for. For me it's an added bonus. I have a 125 gallon tank with a Fluval FX6 filter. I have about 43 fish in here, all sizes. They all love the food and have thrived on it.It lasts a long time too. I bought this food months ago and i still have over 2/3 of the food remaining. I have seven aquariums and i feed this to all my fish. I mainly have African Cichlids but even the regular fish love it. Crushed up, i feed it to my fish fry when they are big enough. They grow really fast on this too.When this bucket of food runs out, i am going to buy more.

Worth the price

Note: picture is not correct. The 2270g size comes in a 1gal well-sealed sturdy plastic bucket. For large numbers of cichlids, buying the 300g size would cost a lot more than buying the larger size. Plus, having to buy 7 of the smaller containers to get less than the one large would just generate more containers to trash. The large bucket container is reusable for many things, so it doesn't go to the trash but for other uses by me, friends, and others.The food is great! Cichlids love it. My cichlids do NOT like floating pellets, like other brands. The New Life Spectrum pellets sink and get in the rocks which encourage the fish to hunt around for the ones they don't catch on the way down. Their color is great and they are very healthy (reproducing way to frequently)!

I have been a big fan of New Life Spectrum for over 2 years and my fish have never been healthier! The Cichlids all love it and I would give it FIVE STARS except for one thing. The labels on all New Life Spectrum pellets say they are "SINKING" pellets." Unfortunately, they DON"T SINK, quickly enough, without human intervention, which defeats the purpose of having an auto-feeder while on vacation! Over half of the pellets make the 6 feet trek, on the surface, uneaten, into the overflow and filter! Nevertheless, I will still buy another bucket when this is gone and I'll return to add the 5th star if they ever SINK prior to going into the overflow!!

the product did not come in the bucket as advertized, it is in a bag. I had a reason for wanting it in a bucket & that was part of my reason for choosing it.Fish eat it except the size I got is way too small, my error. They float away unless I put them in very slowly. Some sink, most do not, or don't have time to before being carried over the spillway.Will have to order something else now & feed that to small tanks only. That will last a long time!

First off, paying $52 for 5lbs of NLS is a great deal in comparison with local fish stores (LFS).The last time I've had cichlids was over 10 years ago, and even then, I bought NLS (just in smaller quantities at higher prices). Fast forward to present day, at first I bought Tetra color until I could figure out what the brand was that I had used 10 years ago was...and in the course of the time the cichlids colors stayed the same. Tetra Color really didn't bring out the colors unlike how NLS has. I understand that male cichlids gain majority of their color as they age, however, my males that I bought from stores that were not fed NLS showed a dramatic increase in colors. The other male cichlids that I bought from The Fish Gallery in Houston, that were fed NLS, so there was no increase to their color.I feed 3x a day - small mealsSometimes I mix in spirulina flakes as one of the meals.

The most common thing I feed my cichlids. I have not had water clouding issues. I have not had any bloat. The price may seem steep but this is a very concentrated product and the large tub lasts me a long time. I only take enough food out of the tub for 1 week and keep the rest in the freezer to keep it fresh.
