Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of this album from the Disco/R&B diva. Donna Summer gained prominence during the 1970s Disco era, propelled by her incessant and creative driving force behind the genre's global popularity, rightly earning the title Queen of Disco and becoming one of the most successful recording artists of the entire decade. I'm a RAINBOW was the second album recorded for Geffen Records and due for release 1981/1982 but was shelved at the time, as David Geffen wanted to bring in Quincy Jones to produce the album that became DONNA SUMMER. I'm a RAINBOW, which was produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, was eventually released in it's entirety in 1996. The album was originally intended to be Donna Summer's fourth double-album and as such, this re-issue is released as originally configured, as two CDs, representing each of the Record One and Record Two sequence.

The story behind I'm a Rainbow
This is an album that is a must for all Donna Summer fans to have in your collection. Especially the vinyl version. The story behind this collection is that Donna continued to branch out musically and this was the project that showcased her efforts. It's a little a bit of everything, some 80s style rhythm, ballads and poppy tunes. But I must confess a bit all over the place in style and writing, but it is catchy and worth a listen. The album however was shelved by David Geffen - Geffen Records. Who decided to scrap the project as he thought it was not going to be commercial hit and hired Quincy Jones for the replacement record. Thus ended the Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte super team. Although the over produced Quincy Jones self titled album was a hit, it has been noted that Donna was not happy with the scrapping of I'm a Rainbow, as it was a very personal record for her, hence a very difficult relationship with Geffen for the next several years. This album is unique and clearly demonstrates Summers voice, writing and skills that makes each song hers. Several tracks were later released on movie sound tracks like Flashdance and Fast Times at Ridgmont High, and covers by a few artists, that had fans yearn for more. In 1996 the album was released to great fanfare and the fans finally got the Donna we all love. So sit back, relax and listen to one of her best albums released. Now it's 2015 and the vinyl version is in my collection. Happy listening.

Donna at her prime and best
This is my favorite of all Donna cds. It is extremely personal. Most of the music was written or cowritten by her. I'm sorry this cd never got a proper release until years after it was recorded. Nevertheless it was well worth the wait. The remastering is gorgeous. Sounds incredible. Donna shows versatility and an inside view of her personal life. Truely under appreciated and was not heard by enough people

Emotional Album !!
Originally scheduled for release in 1981, the double-album I'm a Rainbow was shelved at the last minute. In the proocess, it became legendary among Donna Summer fanatics. In 1996, I'm a Rainbow was finally released as a single compact disc. Like most of Summer's recordings from the late '70s and early '80s, it was produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, who give the stylish disco a sleek, sexy sheen. The difference between I'm a Rainbow and its predecessors -- and, indeed, its sequels -- is the subject matter. Throughout I'm a Rainbow, Summer turns in some of her most personal, introspective lyrics and singing, which gives the album an emotional force her albums sometimes lacked. In fact, given the quality of the music, it's hard to see why this was shelved at the time because it is stronger than the majority of her official studio albums.

Donna's Moroder Swansong...the last full cd that she would do with her late mid- to late-70's producer.
One of the best...this cd was supposed to follow up 'The Wanderer' & David Geffen & company made a big mistake shelfing it until the mid-90's for a 'Chronicles' release. Pete Bellote & Georgio Moroder's last big recording effort with Donna is like 'The Wanderer' part 2. Tremendous diversity & style blending together pop/rock/dance/soul etc. together for a true musical extravaganza. The remasters here are truly amazing. Enjoy!

all that glitters over the raindow is gold?
This could have been donna summers follow up to the wanderer, but in some ways i can see why geffen records did not release it. There are some very good songs on the cd, and some ok, and some that seem and sound like filler.IF im a rainbow would have been shorter, with only 11 song instead of 18, with a better cd cover, it could have worked, songs like sweet emotion, brooklyn, dont cry for me argentina, end of the weekend, ture love survives, .if you would have tracked the cd in this order, it could work . track 1. leave me alone, 2 people talk 3 melanine 4 to turn to stone, 5 walk on 6 romeo 7 highway rummer 8 runner with the pack, 9 you to me 10 im a rainbow 11 i need time. if you track these songs in an order like this, you can hear that it could have been a good if not a great release, when mercury records put this out, they could have given it alittle more TLC, like a better cover, a booklet, with pictures, and and the words to the songs, too bad , all and all its good, and if you love donnas geffen years, its a must have, out of print, and getting hearder to find.

Donna shows her colors on this album.
This withheld album by David Geffen contains two wonderful songs brought to audience in 1992: "I'm A Rainbow" and the original version of "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" - the remix was released in 1992 on Donna Summer "Anthology". Her team-up wih Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte proved to be efficient again, although Geffen didn't agree. "I Believe in You", a duet with Joe Esposito, is a wonderful song and a great introduction to the album. Geffen's greatest mistake was thinking that Donna Summer just knew how to sang Disco tunes. She always was more than that and this album shows that perfectly. Thumbs up for Summer!

I did not really like this album when I first heard it but now ...
I did not really like this album when I first heard it but now after 37 years I started to play this vinyl edition and I must admit how wrong I was about it. The quality is superb and I can't stop playing it now. It is a precursor to her Crayons album
