Good spindle, simple and def does the job well!
So I think as others have mentioned, this certainly is good for beginners (my first time!) But def can see this spindle still being useful a long time later after I'm more experienced as well. Showed some pics of fiber I spun to give a sense of the thickness of the fiber you can get (at least as me being a total beginner). I *think* according to my scale this spindle is 1.5oz.There is one notch, on the part of the whorl that is closest to the "back" of the hook (opposite the opening). Maybe more notches would be useful to have more flexibility in where to park your fiber, but I found even just one to be exceedingly helpful.I didn't have issues with the size of the hook opening like another reviewer had, was plenty of room. I think if you try to spin pretty thick you will have issues, but if you are trying to spin thick you prob should buy a heavier spindle (lighter spindles cannot spin for as long because of momentum/physics).Also surface was nice and smooth even at the notch, no need for sanding. No instructions included but don't think it needs it, plenty of free tutorial videos on youtube which in some ways is easier to watch to learn. If you like books get Abby's Respect the spindle.Would def recommend for anyone that wants to give spinning a try!

Great for making plarn!
I've never done any kind of spinning, and wanted to give it a go. I liked the idea of trying to make plarn, which i had made before, but not spun. The spindle arrived on time, and is super easy to use! A quick youtube tutorial, and boom, I now have multiple balls of plarn to make things with.I did have to file down the notch a little bit, as I was having trouble keeping the plarn in the notch after the spindle started to get full, but it was a very easy fix.My only complaint is packaging- my spindle was put in essentially a malila envelope- while im all for less packaging, when it arrived the top part of the spindle was completly exposed, and im honestly amazed it didnt fall out completly in transit and get lost.Otherwise, very happy with my purchase.

and they have excellent costumer service
Works well, not too heavy but not too light. Mine broke after falling, but can be fixed, and they have excellent costumer service. Great spindle, especially for someone just starting out.

Basic and usable but seems built quickly and a little sloppy, wouldn't reorder
I chose this mainly because it was an option to support a small business and it's a utilitarian item so I don't need it to be fancy but it's not very well made. It seems solid and should last for a while but there's no noticeable protective finish on the wood, the edges aren't rounded over, there was too much glue used so there's spill over on the dowel, and the dowel is slight crooked so there's a wobble. It's usable enough that it's not worth returning but I wouldn't order again.

Very happy
I am really happy with this spindle. It didn't come with instructions but there are some great videos on YouTube that explained it well enough for me to easily succeed on my first try. It probably also helped that I spent the 5 days waiting for it to arrive practicing spinning by hand. I bought this to spin plarn so I can't say how it does with fibers but it did work well for the plarn. I was able to spin up 10 plastic bags (16 loops per bag) in about 90 min.

Well made and I’m happy
Tried it today. I’ve been using bottom whorl so this my first of this type. Well balanced and spins without wobble.

Sturdy and well made
This is working out really well! It seems sturdy and well made. I have made three skeins on it so far. It took me awhile to get the hang of it after watching a few youtube videos. I have always wanted to learn to make yarn and now I can!!
