great book, spoilers!
I really love this book! The writing style and story was great and I really like how the whole time seeing things through Henry’s eyes you think everything is going smoothly or at least as Grace puts it, “Henry thinks she’s becoming her old self again”. Most of the time reading this book I believed as Henry did, that he loved Grace for who she is now and not who she was before but as the book nears the end you do start to see more and more how he doesn’t and that she really is broken and needs more than just a guy to fix her! I think this story shows a great portrayal of the kind of PTSD that death can have on someone and how depression ect can’t be fixed with finding love, that you need therapy and just the same amount of medical attention as a person who suffers a physical illness. The really scientific aspect of the characters outcome of love can be viewed as bleak but at the core you see how true it is that “love doesn’t need to last a lifetime to be real. You can’t judge the quality of a love by the length of time it lasts...”. This book is something I would definitely recommend anyone to read!

To be or not to be. - Shakespeare
This. This is a story of a boy who needed to be broken to feel, to heal, and to love. This book captivates the heart, chews it up, and spits it out. It is raw, unadulterated, and painful, but it is also beautiful, hilarious, and witty. It is no fairy tale but it is a a fair tale--worthy of pricelessness. Our Chemical Hearts will shatter from love to be or not to be. Love lost and loved gained--no matter the situation our hearts will heal. Whether we heal with the idea of oblivion or the idea that new love is this convoluted mess of hope, anger, desire, and despair; it means that we are at least.... healing.I see love differently because of this novel. Love is a mess, but it is a mess I want to be in.Love is to be, at least it is to me.Fabulous job, Krystal Sutherland. May you and your career live long and prosper. - Star Trek

Offbeat romance delivers universal truths about love
Krystal Sutherland has crafted a powerful yet beguiling tale of first and lasting love. Although a work of fiction, it rings true on so many levels. The story of Henry and Grace struck a chord with me because it reminded me so much of a chapter from my own past, but anyone with a heart will be swept along on this river of emotion. Whether you’re just starting in life or looking back through a lens of experience, you will relate to this coming of age story.

Gave me Eleanor and park vibes!!!
Our chemical hearts simply grabbed my from the cover. I loved the story line & the characters. From the jump I felt the similarities to Eleanor and park just an older and modern version. Henry page was such an awesome character for me, guy perspective books are hard for me sometimes because I never feel like the characters connect to their story. But Henry did. I found myself laughing, I found myself feeling bad for grace town, I found myself loving them. It was such a great read, i highlighted a whole bunch in this book. I would suggest it to someone else. So if you haven't read it, do so!

Five Star Read!!
This is a some what coming of age with a twist. The author has excellent writing skills. Her words just flow smoothly across the pages. I enjoyed reading her words. The storyline made me think about teens who have lost classmates/friends and my heart ached. I could not put my kindle down. I was pulled into the story from page one. I cried and laughed many times during my read. I fell in love with these characters. In the end I was happy with the last chapter because love is love. We are humans and we love many. This opened my mind up to her point of views about love and loss. I totally agree with her words.

It's like falling in love
This is a book that you know is the one who will break your heart. You give it a chance even though you can already see the mountain of tissue and cat videos it will take to make you alright again when it dumps you on your rear. In the end, though, you will survive this catastrophic heart break, and you learn some things about love and about perspective. I enjoyed the journey - the funny, funny times and the bad, black ones as well. I thought about it all day and talked about it to folks who didn't care, and that means it is really a book worth picking up.

Refreshing tale of love and loss
I bought this book because I know they‘ve made it into a movie and I always prefer reading the book first. So, it arrived the day after I bought it which was amazing. And I’m currently on holidays, so I thought that I’d bring a couple of books with me to read. I didn’t really know what to expect or that this story was going to be from a males perspective (Henry). Don’t think I’ve ever read from a boys POV for an entire book before. This was interesting and I liked how it kicked off straight away. The characters were all great and I loved Henry’s close circle of friends. This is not a usual love story told in a fairytale-like way. It’s very real and raw and that’s why I fell in love with it so much. I really felt sorry for both of the main characters. Grace was battling with her own issues and Henry didn’t realise how much he was falling until it was too late in a sense. I’ve never been in a relationship, so I’m unsure how it feels to get your heart broken. But I can only imagine that it’s an awful process and judging by Henry’s description of what it’s like, I felt as if I was going through all of the emotions with him. Despite Grace using him on times, I still felt sorry for her character too. She was just trying to forget about the past and she had been through a lot. I just think that poor Henry was worse off at the end of it all.I had mixed views about the ending though. Some part of me liked it and the other part was wishing that it had fast forwarded 5 years and that they met again somewhere - the same people but slightly more ready to be in each other’s lives again. But for their friendship - for everything to just be erased from both sides, I found that really sad. I wonder if Grace really did like Henry or not. He obviously felt more for her but it was as if she didn’t understand his feelings at all.Overall, I really loved this because I found it quite refreshing. It wasn’t a fairytale ending, and it felt real to me - like how relationships and first loves can be like when it doesn’t work out.

A touching look at grief and first love
I have such mixed feelings about this book and I thought the best way for me to work it out would be to write a review. Our Chemical Hearts was a touching insight into first love and love lost. We are introduced to Grace who walks with a cane, wears oversized men’s clothing and doesn’t take much care with her appearance. Soon you learn she hasn’t always been that way and it takes almost half the book to find out why. I felt it was pretty clear what had happened and Henry’s lack of insight and complete naivety about it slightly frustrated me. However, it probably is realistic and he is a seventeen year old boy who’s falling in love for the first time. His perception is probably a bit impaired. The side characters in this book were pretty loveable. First and foremost, our protagonist has great banter with them all. However, Henry’s Australian best friend; Murry, did seem ever so slightly over stereotyped. It is admitted that he is doing some of it on purpose, but he just carries on and plays on it, even trying to look like Crocodile Dundee! Henry’s other best friend Lola, is a lesbian and strong feminist, she often calls Henry out for saying the wrong thing or tells him to be careful in his developing relationship.Henry also has a very understanding and open relationship with his parents and sister which was really touching to see. In a lot of YA books you often see teens who resent their parents for watching out for them, despite that not always being the case in real life. It was refreshing to see a different perspective. The ending was also really necessary, and without spoiling anything, I’m glad not everything was completely wrapped up with a nice little bow on it. I ended up feeling so much for Grace as we learnt more and more about her and I think her story had a very realistic conclusion. This was such a sad read, but it was an important narrative that needed to be told that packed a punch despite being quite short

Well written
I wasn't sure that I would like this story that much as I'm not a huge romances however as soon as you start to read it it becomes obvious it's not your typical romance novel. It is beautifully written as it captures all the complicated emotions that occur when you feel like you're falling in love especially when you're a teenager. It's easily relatable and even though the ending wasn't as expected it felt fitting and any other ending would have ruined the emotional journey that occurred.

Amazing!
Have you ever read a book and thought, damn, I wish I had written that! That is how I feel about Our Chemical Hearts. Krystal Sutherland has done an amazing job creating the world of Henry Page, a teen who falls in love for the first time with the mysterious Grace Town. Henry learns the hard way that love doesn’t run smooth, and that his idea of love was just that, an idea. So what is this he’s feeling? A burning passion? A desire? An addiction? True love? Henry comes to learn that feelings and love are complicated, and not all broken things can be fixed.I fell in love with all the characters in this book. Murray, the love-sick delusional Aussie-American, La (Lola), the feisty, caring, loyal lesbian friend and neighbour, Suds (Sadie), Henry’s delinquent, genius sister. Each character brings something magical to the story. Our Chemical Hearts deals with themes of loss, grief, acceptance, redemption and of course, love. Or rather, the intense heartbreak that is love. Sutherland describes these feelings in a thousand different ways, each one more beautiful than the last. By the time I reached the climax I was a mess of emotion, my own heart being stretched to the limits alongside these characters who are now like friends, you know them so well. It is a YA triumph.

Heartbreaking
Our chemical hearts is a book Id recommend to anyone looking to read a funny yet heartbreaking story. This is a story of a first love and how that love effects the two partners, one of whom has nothing to give and one of whom gives too much. From the get go, this book makes you feel for the two main characters, Henry an awkward teenager falling in love for the first time and Grace, a girl from a broken background. Two characters drawn together for different reasons, both a burden and help to the other. Him to help her and get to know her. Her reason is less obvious and genuine. It's a story written with the voice of Henry and this gives the book a very funny, loveable narrative.Theres too many spoilers to go into detail but this book deals with very real topics, such as abuse and mental health, and does so in a very honest and relatable way. There is also plenty of diversity in this book, one of the friends is an LGBT character and whilst this is mentioned, it is not the main trait of the character, as so often is the case.Heartbreakingingly wonderful
