This book is well structured and informative aimed at both the educator / teacher and the learner / student. The digital tools are clearly identified and the purpose thereof clearly articulated in a practical context. This is a good reference for all EdTech initiatives.

EdTech Essentials is a great tech resource. Dr. Burns shares the online strategies that all educators can use. I also recommend her podcast, Easy Edtech.

Educators must continue to provide students with the traditional “3Rs” skills. But our job is now tougher. We now also need to provide our students with technology skills. And we need to take advantage of technology to help our students learn more effectively. Of course, making this all happen creates new challenges for teachers.In EdTech Essentials, Monica Burns works to make sense of this complex picture. She spotlights ten “essential” strategies for how students can use technology to learn and how teachers can enable their learning. She then gives examples of how these strategies can be used across K-12 grade levels. And she provides lists of related tools.This book provides a great starting point in making sense of technology in learning.

A must read for all Ed Techs!

Monica somehow managed to create a book that is simultaneously approachable and friendly, clear and concise, and relevant and expertise rich. The categories that she has focused on are some of the most important things that teachers can leverage technology tools for but, if you don't believe her, she'll sell you on them in the "Why is this Essential?" sections within each chapter. I already believed her, but hearing her reasoning helped me focus on what was important and reminded me to "start with why."Much like her book Tasks Before Apps, Monica focuses here on "pedagogies before apps." While this book will certainly add to your edtech tool belt that only happens after you've learned about the strategies and practices that those tools pair well with.The icing on top of this sundae are the appendices of resources that will guide you on your journey with workbook pages and self-assessments. Grab a copy of this book! You won't regret it!
