Q: Can I just buy the metal lace tips please?

Not to my knowledge. I do have the shoelaces and like them very much but have never lost the metal tip before.

Q: Is the end of the shoes lace normal or do you have to use the metal fastner?

Yes they are normal at the end with little aglets so you can easily lace them through the shoe. Then you trim them off to use the toggle closing system. Have had mine for two years now and have functioned perfectly. I love being able to just slide my foot into the shoe.
