Antarctica: Music From Koreyoshi Kurahara's Film

One of My Favorites
Antarctica: Music From Koreyoshi Kurahara's Film has one of the most beautiful themes of anything I have h heard in a movie, and it is noticeable in many of the selections. Not only one of my favorite Vangelis albums, but one of my all-time favorite instrumental albums.

Simply BEAUTIFUL!
I LOVE this CD!!! It is easy listening with a lot of electronic synthesizers -- very soothing. I listened to it while going through hundreds of my Antarctica trip photos and videos. Listening to "Antarctica Echoes (remastered)" while remembering my zodiac gliding through the floating ice on Hidden Bay captured the moment perfectly. I'm sorry to learn the composer Vangelis' passing in May of this year -- such a loss of talent -- bus his music lives on. Glad to find this CD on Amazon!

Almost as Perfect as 1492 Conquest of Paradise !!!!!
THIS ALBUM KICKS MAJOR BUTT IN THE PURE MOODS DEPARTMENT AND THE OPENING TRACK IS THE BEST ON THE ALBUM, I HAD THE VANGELIS ALBUM TITILED "PORTRAITS" AND THE VERSION OF ANTARCTICA THERE WAS ONLY 4 MINUTES LONG, I DIDNT KNOW THAT THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF ANTARCTICA WAS 7 MINUTES OF PURE HEAVEN,THE 4 MINUTE VERSION ON PORTRAITS ONLY PLAYS THE FIRST DECENT HALF, THE OTHER 3 MINUTES OF THE SONG NEAR THE END ARE THE ABSOLUTE BEST PERIOD !!! IM SO GLAD I BOUGHT THIS ALBUM TO KNOW THAT ANTARCTICA WAS EVEN BETTER THAN I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT :)

Vangelis at his best
This album is COLD ! Vangelis' synthesizer work captures the utter chill and desolation of the continent, complete from crystalline ice to howling wind. I have three copies of this on three different vinyl pressings and never tire of the sonic depths this music contains. The CD never arrived - someone in the USPS system decided they needed it more than I, so all I received was an empty bubble wrap envelope with a "Delivered without contents" stamp from USPS. I bought the CD elsewhere - from a dedicated music outlet online service.

Another Vangelis hit!
I just received this in mail yesterday, & am listening to it right now as I type this, for already the 3rd or 4th time. I'd hear the title song on our classical music station & was swept away by it.I sure do wish the movie was still available, but it seems not to be according to Amazon. I would love to see what accompanies this beautiful music! Even tho this underlying theme runs throughout most of the score, the many variations & twists that Vangelis puts on it makes it anything but boring. Beautiful, thrilling Music!!!

A Hidden Gem
"Antarctica" may not be as well known as Vangelis' work from the '70s or his soundtracks to "Blade Runner" and "Chariots of Fire", but in my opinion this is his best soundtrack effort. The album varies from upbeat ("Theme from Antarctica") to low-key and reflective ("Antarctica Echoes") to dark and brooding ("Other Side of Antarctica"). If you enjoy any of Vangelis' other albums, this is a great one to get.

Fluff
After giving this CD about 7 listens over the course of a couple weeks, I put it away probably for good. The melody he relies on through the first movement and several times thereafter isn't bad but it isn't much either. I also don't like his use of the big clapping sound that was almost comically overdone as a backbeat in the 80's. Vangelis at times uses some really cool drums which makes that cheap backbeat almost like a physical shock to hear - so out of place. In fairness, that might not have been the case when this soundtrack was first written, and it might not bother somone who doesn't find it to be an 80's new age cliche sound. I just expected more meat and potatoes from the guy who wrote the virtually unsurpassed soundtrack for Blade Runner! Besides that clapping backbeat, the repetetive simple melody and some fluffy nice chord washes - I didn't find much there there...

This has always been one of my favorites. I ...
This has always been one of my favorites. I got this CD just because I listen to it so often, I got tired of using my old cassette tape. It's the sounds of ice and frozen splendor.

Beautiful music
I had been meaning to add to my pitifully small collection of Vangelis, then he died...I was prompted to buy Antarctica having heard a couple of tracks on a best of... This is Vangelis so it can only be beautiful, heartfelt music that is moving and intelligent. The man had a huge talent. I will be buying more.

ABSOLUTLY BEAUTIFUL AND UNFORGETTABLE.
If I could give this cd 10 stars, I would. I like it unbelievably so. I have the dvd of the movie and the LP of its music. I needed to get the cd. I waited and waited and waited.....until one day, while browsing through Amazon......there it was. So, I bought it. Now I have all three. I needed the cd to add to my collection of 7000+ songs (from my cd collection) that I have put on to iitunes. If you haven't seen the movie then please try to get it. You will fall in love with the movie, its sadness and its magnificent soundtrack.

Lush, ambient, entrancing
A beuatiful album by Vangelis - the title track is seven minutes of sheer perfection, and its haunting melody is repeated several times during the subsueqent tracks, which are lush, melodic and superbly atmospheric. One of the greatest 'ambient' style albums I've ever heard - put this one on after a long hard day and just let the music dissolve away all stresses and tensions.
