It does what it is supposed to do. There are no instructions that come with it. You have to slide out the rubber strip to expose the bolts. "Slide" is a relative term, it takes some effort to use just your fingers. On the one I couldn't push out, I used needlenose pliers which did leave a slight mark in the rubber. After loosening the bolt you can slide over your bar. There wasn't a torque spec, so I tightened to what I considered appropriate.The good news is that the system has enough play to let you get the bike rack on without a lot of adjustments. I eyeballed everything and despite not being perfectly lined up, I was able to use the rack and it is as secure as any other Yakima bike rack I have used.
