Incipio ClamCase+ Keyboard/Cover Case for iPad Air 2 - Space Gray

Initial Impression: A Great Keyboard
Purchased this for my iPad Air 2 after getting tired our Z**g keyboard hinges always failing on us (wife and me) in less than ~6 mo.'s. I have two main priorities now when ordering a keyboard for an iPad (besides hinge durability): 1) Keys are forward so you have a palm rest. 2) backlit keys option. Until this revision, ClamCase has never had the backlit keys, so I was glad to see it finally with this version, and the price reduction compared to the original models. One other revision that caused me to buy this - Silver back instead of prior white. The typing feel is a little lighter/crisper than my Z**g's, which I like. In terms of weight comparison, this ClamCase iPad-keyboard combo weighs 1016 grams, and my previous aluminum Z**g Slimbook w/iPad(cellular) weighs 980 grams, so very close (or a ~1.3 oz difference. That's according to my new Accuteck Digital Scale. An iPad Air 2 with cellular weighs 444 grams by itself.) Compared to the Z**g Slimbook, the Clamcase+ doesn't have the option of lifting the iPad (with protective plastic shell) off the hinge, but it pops out of the shell fairly easily. The ClamCase+ design has the added feature (unlike the Z**g Slimbook) of folding back to book view, or presentation view. If I could wish for design changes to make it the perfect keyboard case, it would be a hinge that doesn't have stops at certain angles, & NO delay in keyboard connection once it's been idle for several minutes (haven't timed it yet with the ClamCase+, but Z**g keyboards have a 2-3 second & reconnect delay after 5 minutes of non-typing.) The later may not be possible with a bluetooth case unless it never turned off, which would seriously drain the battery. (I wish it was user adjustable; I'd trade shorter battery life for less frequent reconnect delays.) Most likely, only Apple's Smart keyboards have NO reconnect delay since they don't use bluetooth. If the hinge holds up more than a year, I might bump my rating up to 5 stars.8/24/17 Edit: Still 4 stars, but my hinge has held up well. No sign of cracks any wear. I've dropped it several times on hard cement and the corners protected my iPad. One drop caused a slight dent to the left front corner of the keyboard, with slight separation of the two layers. I clamped overnight with superglue, and it hasn't separated. (The top layer of the keyboard is aluminum, and the bottom plastic.) I can't give it 5 stars w/o 2 design changes: 1. keys to adjust iPad brightness 2. Slightly smoother hinge. The way it catches; at 30 degrees and 180 degrees as you rotate it into Movie or Book mode, puts the stress on the hinge that causes the cracks some people have experienced.12/30/18 Edit: About to sell this along with the iPad Air 2. It's pretty beat up from daily use for work, but the hinge has held up well. (I rarely used it in other than tablet mode though.) Nice to see the current price drop to ~$50. This is definitely a 4-5 star product. I was VERY disappointed they never made one for the iPad 10.5".

Loses bluetooth after 5 minutes of inactivity
I had the earlier model (no backlit keys), which worked perfectly...until I lost Bluetooth connectivity after 5-minutes of keyboard inactivity. I had used the earlier model so often, the letter appliqués on the keys (A, S, D) wore off. I am not dinging ClamCase too much for this, as I am an aggressive typist and use the keyboard a lot. Plus I do a lot of typing in the dark and thought it was time to upgrade anyway, so I bought this ClamCase+ for my iPad Air 2. But, like the prior version, this one loses Bluetooth connectivity. The connection can be re-established by going into Settings ==> Bluetooth ==> ClamCase Plus Keyboard, then simultaneously pressing function and the Bluetooth key for 3 seconds. It immediately reconnects, but I have to do this 10 times per day. Very annoying! I'm not sure if this is a iOS upgrade compatibility issue and hope it gets resolved with the next iOS update. (This issue appeared when moving to iOS 10. (I am operating with iOS 10.2 now.)Another con is the 'E' key sticks. This does not cause the key to repeat (yet), but it affects my typing. Maybe it will correct itself. (Unlikely...)On the upside, the case is more robust than the prior version. The matte finish has more of a grip than the prior version did. This plus version is also a bit heavier than the prior version, presumably to accommodate the increase heft (beefier), the backlit keys (which work great) and the bigger battery needed for the increased power usage. This increased weight was not a big issue for me, as it still has the same form factor and in fact felt better carrying since I could hold it better. So, I am giving the keyboard 3-stars, but will upgrade if/when the connectivity issue is resolved.

Good keyboard case built with bad materials
The case does its job well. The keys are nice to type on, the iPad is protected, and is overall a very good case. The reason why I gave it 3 stars is because the materials used in the case are very low quality. I am very careful with the case, haven't dropped it, and it still has dents and scratches everywhere, especially on the chrome Incipio logo. On the bottom, one of the rubber feet is gone, despite having keeping the case in a backpack when it's not in use. The backlighting on the keyboard is sub par, because the lighting doesn't go through the keycaps, only below and around the keys. This makes the backlighting only effective when look at the keyboard from a certain angle. The case is a good keyboard case, but the extra features which I would think give it such a premium price are simply not there.Pros:- Good keyboard, great typing experience- Protects the ipad well- Very slim design allowing for easy portabilityCons:- The materials used are extremely soft and dent/scratch prone- Backlighting is much worse than expected for this price range, keyboards that are 40$ cheaper provide better backlighting- Folding the keyboard back to use the iPad in "tablet mode" scratches the Incipio logo on the top of the case, and scratches the keyboard itself

the Clamcase+ is very well designed and made (far superior to the other cases I’ve owned)
This is my first Clamcase for iPad Air 2. I’ve had multiple keyboard cases from another manufacturer (multiple units because the hinges broke after a few months use, even though units were replaced by redesigned models). On first impression, the Clamcase+ is very well designed and made (far superior to the other cases I’ve owned). My previous units had backlit keyboards, which was one reason I choose them in the first place. I have no problem with the brightness of the keys on the Clamcase, they seem very easy to see. The hinge design seems extremely well executed. Fit of the iPad into the case is very good. I do see the issue where closing the case does not put the iPad to sleep, but I don’t have a problem with that (if you put pressure on both the top and bottom cover, it does put the iPad into the sleep mode). After using the case for a few days, I’m very very impressed and happy that I changed to this model and manufacturer.

Crack in ClamCase after 6 months
I am disappointed that the case has cracked after only 6 months (near hinge), especially as I did not treat it roughly, and only folded the screen back to a tablet half a dozen time. Also the space bar key is playing up. You have to hit it dead centre or it doesn't work - very frustrating when you type quickly and have to go back and put all the spaces in. I thought this was a better quality keyboard.

Functional, Fitting, Fuss Free
I like that it meets all my fundamental needs of an iPad keyboard. After initial set up, clamcase functions without any issues with my iPad air 2.Clamcase has a sleek and slim design. Simple colors of silver and black. You can rotate clam case 360 degrees and position it as you like to turn it either into a laptop or a tablet. I have been able to use it as a laptop, tablet for writing and to play online games like PUBG.

Cheap plastic, lasted only a few months.
Looks good. Quite strong hinges that are too strong for the plastic case material.Case cracked near the hinges and case is now in the bin.

Nice case, great hinge
I’ve had a few cases, all of them the hinge failed. I think this case hinge will last the time. Very happy with the case overall 👍🏻
