Q: Considering this pillow for my wifes shoulder pain, her upper arm measures 8", will her elbow be above the mattress?

A person's arm goes through the hole at the top of the pillow and so when I use this pillow, my elbow and forearm rests on the mattress. There is no pressure on the forearm and elbow because your body is resting on the inclined pillow. It is hard to explain - but I find it very comfortable.

Q: How long does this pillow last before it looses it's shape, flatens, as pillows eventually do? I wouldn't want to pay over $200 every 6 months.

I have had 2 other pillows prior to this one and they did break down fairly quickly. The Medcline is a lot firmer and better built. I havent had mine that long, but I can tell the difference already.
