The What A World series is a collection of interesting stories which uses texts to guide learning. The stories are well-written and level-appropriate, vocabulary is practiced and recycled throughout each unit, and the learning exercises offer speaking and writing opportunities for students. I use Ms. Broukal's books quite often. I would rate this book more highly if difficult vocabulary was repeatedly used throughout the whole book, and more emphasis was placed on targeted grammar forms embedded within the readings, with more grammar exercises to keep in shape.

My first year of teaching ESL reading, I was assigned 2 really useless textbooks that caused me nothing but headaches. I was constantly having to supplement and was spending hours on prep. I discovered this book and the What a World II and used a unit a week as homework. They may be my favorite textbooks. I highly recommend them. They are super easy to integrate into your lesson and are no prep.
