Tie down is easy. Untying is difficult and you have to use a metal object/screw driver to pull down in order to release the lever.

A friend of mine bought them (I bought mine and returned it last year), so I thought the product could have been improved... and in fact, they're the same, badly designed, not working properly ratchets.People who give these 3 or plus stars don't know how a proper ratchet should work. These are clunky, hard to unlock, and the straps are too thin and twist a lot.

They don't operate smoothly, you can rachet them down fairly easily but getting them open/released is very difficult. Also the material the strap is made out of it not particularly strong, my cat was able to rip one in half within seconds somehow.I did use them to tie something down in the bed of a pick-up truck but I will be replacing them ASAP with something easier to use and more reliable.They don't cost much which is good but you're getting what you pay more, something cheap, if you needed something for a one time tie down they'd probably work ok for you and the added frustration perhaps is worth the cost saving to you.
