Great lantern with all the features you want
Short version: Definitely a purchase recommendation! In detail:I am very satisfied with this lantern. This lantern is, the most important thing, very bright. I can adequately light a 50 square meter room with it, but have since purchased two lanterns for my apartment to use in case of a power outage. At the push of a button there are two different preset brightness levels, full brightness when turned on and about 40% brightness when the power button is pressed a second time in a row.Another press of the power button in series causes a rather dark and orange night light, but it is absolutely sufficient and perfect for this purpose. At least to me, it does not bother at night and still allows enough to see when you have to get up.What is not mentioned anywhere: If you press and hold the power button again after turning it on at the highest brightness, after waiting a bit, you can dim the light output continuously. The lamp is super processed and the LEDs do not dazzle.Since I bought the lantern as an emergency light for power outages, I am also happy about the feature of charging other devices via a USB port. I have tested this for my Kindle and my iPhone.I am happy that 4 D-cell batteries are used here. That's enough for 15 or 20 hours of continuous light on the highest setting and days of dimmed light or light on the low setting. The weight is OK for what you get. If you need a lantern for hiking, please consider, that you need less of the batteries as if you operate a lantern on AA-cells.There are recharchable versions of it, and, if you take a look at the Energizer homepage, even a hybrid version available, which run on build in rechargeable battery as well as on primary batteries, if needed. I like it just the way it is, as you cannot recharge during power cuts or during long hikes and therefor the D-cell battery version is best for me.The only "improvement" I would like to see is simply a matter of taste: If the LEDs had a more warmer light color of around 3000 Kelvin, it would be the absolute perfect emergency or camping light in my opinion.

Your next Emergency or Wide Area Camping Lantern
Who are these 3 star and less reviewers? If you even think power outage emergency light equals candle flames or explosive fuels; do us all a favor and remain in the darkness. These are perfect solutions. First, D-size batteries (think long lasting hours of operation, not price/battery). USB port, 4-batteries = 6 volts, that will trickle charge a modern phone; not fast charge an electric vehicle, let's be realistic people. 1,000 lumens will light up an entire house floor level or easily read by (remember wide area lighting is the design), lower brightness is perfect for general lighting, and the amber night light keeps the Boogie Man away or stumbling in the dark (also great for identifying your camping site tent on the walk back). Glow in the dark switch and USB cover are a smart touch too. Built tougher then you think; love the coin-screw down bottom battery cover (to prevent accidental loss). The milk-white cover makes for an even light dispersion vs clear-lens and reflective glare. VERY SMART design, well made, it is not a scuba diver's lamp, but the rain resistance is well appreciated. If you expected: included alkaline D batteries (4), a recharge option or data-grade or recharge USB to device cables, you expect way too much at this price point without reason. Expect a great device at a fair price with multiple practical use in a smart design, premium quality, and nice looking package (the grey black was my choice). Buy one or two! Trash the candles, you cannot afford to burn down your home anyway in an emergency (safer with kids too)!!

Get this!
This has been helpful in multiple ways, some planned and some not! We bought this for camping which it was wonderful for, it is seriously bright and didn’t die the entire weekend trip. This also saved our butts from having to live without our phones when our power went out for 24+ hours last winter!

Great to have on hand!
This is a great little lantern to have on hand in case of a power outage. It has several lighting modes, including a gentle 'candle' mode or a stronger ligth that you could use to navigate a dark house. I also greatly appreciate the USB port that can be used to charge your cell phone! Have also bought one of these for my mom to have in case & would recommend it to everyone.

Excellent Bright Lantern for a Good price
This Energizer Vision LED Lantern is very bright. I first purchased a lighter weight lantern model that uses AA batteries, but I got this one as well when I need a brighter light. I use both lanterns as a front porch light (this model I only use when I am getting deliveries at night). My house is very old and the front porch lights went on the house (hard wired), so I use the lanterns now for lights, I am not about to spend a lot of money investing in getting my front porch lights rewired by an electrician/new hard wired lights installed so I use the lanterns instead for over a year and they both work fine. I am sure it is water proof, but if it is heavy rain outside I just put the lanterns inside a heavy duty clear zip lock bags for extra protection and they work fine, inside the bags.

love this
In our city, our power goes out alot. This has come in handy, and I love that you can plug a phone or whatever you need since it has a built in USB port.

Bad product from Energizer
The USB charger never worked. The lantern light after a while could not be turned off, so it discharged 4 D batteries. I threw the lamp out. Very poor product.
