No, it is not difficult to clean by hand. We have hard water, and that causes calcium to build up. When necessary, we just use baking soda to clean it off. It is a nice water pitcher that I fill and empty every day.

Q: Do you sell the lid by itself? Mine broke.

No, you should never use plastics of any kind with hot liquids. Hazardous to one's health.
