Near exact replacement
This is essentially identical (outside) replacement for my Harbor Breeze ceiling fan. The originals seem to last about 10 years and these seem to be a common fail point - I've had two die this year on fans installed in 2012 - basically, the fan will not run with a dead remote unit. If the fan does stop working, its likely NOT the remote control or the fan motor but the control module. So you can buy just the module and save $10 or buy both module + remote. Note: I found cheaper units but this thing is the exact size as original so it fits the tight space.

Installation was more challenging than it should have been
I thought that taking the ceiling fan down would be the hardest part. I was wrong. After taking the fan down, finding a reasonable way to mount the remote was challenging. The lead wires from the controller were pretty short, so being able to get the connectors into the electrical box was impossible. I also had issues with getting the remote to actually work. I'd set an initial DIP switch setting, and matched it with the remote. Before I remounted everything, I tried the light. Nothing. Checking the voltage at the input wire nuts showed 120V. The remote wouldn't trigger anything on the output side. I check wiring several times, ultimately picking a new DIP switch combination, which, for some reason, worked finally. It was an hour of troubleshooting that I'd rather have used putting everything back together. I was just about to return it as defective, when my last setting managed to get it working. I'm wondering if there was a bad DIP switch or something on the controller side, which the new combination managed to avoid. Now that it's installed and functional, it was fine. It a lot longer than I wanted, but happy with the outcome.

It works
We purchased this after our new ceiling fan stopped responding to the remote after we had a power surge. I was afraid it was not going to work but I was wrong it was simple to install and I actually prefer this remote than the one that came with our ceiling fan.

New fan installation
The remote was easily installed and worked like a charm. It slid into the the new fan perfectly.

A second so I can compete with my wife
I compared the settings of the switches to the one my wife has. Only had to change one switch, install a battery & it was working!
