My mare had a couple of big explosive spooks out of the blue, one of which broke my arm. She was diagnosed with Grade 3 ulcers via endoscopy. Per my vet's instructions, I treated her for 28 days (one full tube per day on an empty stomach plus sucralfate twice a day). Another endoscopy showed the ulcers had healed. This medication is not cheap, but neither is getting hurt.

It’s not cheap but if used as directed it will help prevent and clear up the ulcers. As always, work with your veterinarian to determine the cause for the ulcers so they don’t come back. Effectively helps prevent by administering before/during a high stress period (IE: going to a show or event, moving to a new barn, etc). My horse (who is very sensitive) had a field injury that caused her to become very stressed and she got ulcers. So I gave her ulcer guard twice a day for a month, pulled her off grain all together and only fed her (free choice) high quality forage. It gave her stomach time to heal from the ulcers and she bounced right back.

Horses find the smell and taste agreeable. Both of them are eager to receive their dose after they smell it. On stressful days when both horses receive this they do show fewer signs of stomach discomfort than they typically do otherwise.

It's expensive but the only FDA approved ulcer treatment for horses. My horse eats it as a top dressing on his supplements. Again, IT IS EXPENSIVE but I feel it's worth it.
