Better than the movie
The movie for me is a remote drop but still the book is even better.

Nothing like it!
I read the original edition a few years ago and loved it. I was thrilled when I found out there was a classroom edition so I could try it out on my boys. The sporty guy. . . "Booorinng!" But my twelve year old tinkerer who will never, ever read unless by direct order, started grabbing it and sneaking away to read ahead of me! Second book ever (the first was Holes). Really, I tried to get a thorough report of why he likes it, but all I got was, ''It's interesting. He's funny (the main character Mark Watney). I've never read anything like it." So yeah, it's filled with technical terms and ideas, but the solutions that are engineered are fascinating. It's like Robinson Crusoe in space. And the humor really is great. As someone who has read the original, and this one, I can tell you that there is still a little language, but enough potty mouth has been cleaned up, and it doesn't affect the story at all.

fabulous read
I couldn't put it down. I watched to movie with my grandson, who is at uni, and he said the movies good but I would really enjoy the book and I did.it explains the science in a way anyone can understand , it is very funny and I laughed out loud, lol literally.

Better than the movie – love the science!
It’s tough to get comprehensive and comprehendible explanations of science in a movie. I had seen the Martian, and suspected there was some really cool science behind it. My curiosity was satisfied in the book! I kept thinking I would get bored “anytime now,” but I was never bored. The main character’s sense of humor, of course, is one of the highlights of this story, as with other Andy Weir novels. I learned something from that too! I’m usually a “straight man“ and I needed a little schooling in humor. I don’t think I’d like being on Mars, but I sure liked this book.

Man vs Mars
Some chapters man wins and others Mars kicks his butt. The characters's personalities will make you want to reread this over and over again. The science in the book is very accurate to what we believe a Mars trip would involve. Overall a great read.
