Supco SPP8E E Series Electronic Potential Relay style Hard Start Kit, Greater than 1 Horsepower Range, 189-227F Capacitor Size

Works great with EU2000I on a 2010 travel trailer. Before I installed the capacitor, when the AC kicked on the compressor, the generator would overload. It didn't matter if I had it on econ mode or not. When I went to install it, after removing the electric box cover, I discovered that there was only one capacitor in there. It had leads each with 4 prongs on it, so it was an easy plug and play. Watched a youtube video of someone installing on an old AC unit, and it had the same 3, and he instructed that it be installed on the red and white leads (the third is labeled fan), so I did just that (without knowing which of the two should be red or white). Before touching the leads, I shorted out the red and white leads that I was going to touch, and also made sure the power was disconnected, and there was no spark at all, but maybe it did something. And then I turned on the generator on econ mode and let it run for a few minutes and then turned on the AC. The generator groaned a little and then revved up to a higher level, but the AC ran successfully without overloading. Then I let it run for a few minutes and then shut it off and after another few minutes, turned on the AC and it did fine again. Haven't taken it out camping yet, but this will be this friday, so we shall see. If successful, this far beats spending another 1K on either a companion generator or having the 3000I model, both options which would use up more fuel. If I don't update this, consider the trip a success.

I added one of these based off advise from my hvac maintenance guy. Helps keep my older hvac systems keep going and actually did reduce my electric use a pretty noticeable amount.

Turned out that I needed a soft start, but this part did what it was advertised to do.

Simple to wire up and does the job of reducing compressor amp draw/noise at startup. Built in mounting bracket for clean install.If you aren’t sure which one to get and know your compressor model #, many manufacturers will recommend a hard start capacitor size.SPP6E 88-106UF is suitable for many compressors 3 tons or less. Bigger IS NOT better, get the correct starter size for your compressor.

In Maryland, we've been having an increasing number of blackouts due to bad weather. We already had a small 3500/4400w (continuous/peak) generator hooked into a 10 circuit transfer switch. When we installed that system, we decided not to consider powering the central air conditioner.Then a major heat wave combined with a REALLY bad weather, resulted in 100+ degree weather, half the state being blacked out for up to a week, and our decision to upgrade the generator to power the whole house hvac system.We're running a single phase (~240v) Trane XE1200 with a rating of 12 RLA and 65 LRA. Not realizing the importance of the AC unit's LRA value. We bought the biggest generator we could find sitting on a shelf at Lowes, a Generac Xg8000e 8000/10000w unit. Upgraded the generator side electrical wiring in the house from 10 gauge to 6 gauge. Fed the new wiring into a dedicated sub panel and piggy backed our orignal transfer switch panel off of the new subpanel. We put in a 20 amp dual pole circuit breaker into the new sub panel and feed that into a 30 amp, center-off Leviton 1288 a/off/b dual pole switch, to cleanly switch the ac between line power and generator power, the furnace blower motor was already wired into the original transfer switch panel.So, after upgrading the generator, supply wiring and power distribution... The ac wouldn't turn over. That's when we realized 65x240= 15600, we were at least 5600 watts short of the power needed to start up the AC, 12x240 = 2880 but we had more than enough power to sustain it, once it was started. We were prepared to exchange our Generac for the larger Gp175000e (17,500/26250w) unit...Then we read about Hard Start kits and their ability to deliver serious, yet brief jolts of current to an ac unit for easier startup. We ordered a Supco Ssp8e Electronic Potential Relay hard start kit. When I opened up the ac there seemed to be a hard start cap 5-2-1 style already there. Installed the supco in parallel with the existing start cap, across the herm and common connection of the main dual purpose cap.... No luck, still wouldn't start up under generator power.Then, I removed the old starter cap and just left the supco unit installed, across the herm and common connectors of the dual purpose cap and... Bingo(!)Ac started up and has been running properly all day. On a day when it's 105 degrees out side, we're at 76 degrees inside the house, under generator power. The temp did climb to 79 degrees while I did the hard start kit install but dropped back down within an hour or two.

Worked fine. I first had put a Supco SPP6E on the rear RV air (13k btu) to enable connecting to a home 15 amp circuit. It worked fine so I got the SPP7E for the front air (15K btu). Both A/C's are Dometic and are 16 years old. When they start now you can hear the fan start first followed by the compressor and a noticeable reduction in in the sound. After a while I do not pay attention to the on and off. When on generator (5KW) there is virtually no change in sound. Prior to the Supco's the gen would slow and hunt before settling down. The 15K A/C can start on the 15amp circuit as well but not at the same time as the 13amp. Since the original capacitors worked, I left them in place as a backup, disconnected, and hooked up the Supco's. Install is easy, one wire has a single connector and one has a combo connector, just like the original. Connect the new one like the old one was connected. Secured with a plastic tie.

Our 39 year old Lennox A/C compressor finally got to the point where it wouldn't start up. I installed this hard-start capacitor and it cranked right up. Its still working fine after 3 months, but its had just light use - it is still winter but we've had many days in the mid 80's. I know it won't last for a long time, but if I can get yet another summer out of it, or maybe even 2, it'll be well worth it. Not looking forward to a new system at around $6,000. This product is very easy to install - just follow the instructions and plug the 2 wires onto your existing running capacitor. I highly recommend getting this type, the "E series" because they have a built in relay which lets the Supco unit drop off when the compressor is running, then rest so its ready to go when called upon again. Its a very easy way to extend the life of your compressor.

Runs my generator without killing it and easy to install. NOTE: Make sure it matches your horsepower, more expensive doesn't mean it's better

Before installing this capacitor I was unable to start my air conditioner using my 3000w inverter generator, now it starts even with the generator in eco mode.installation on my unit was super simple, the provided instructions could be a little more clear for laymen but it may have been that I was over thinking it.

I have a 16,000 BTU A/c in my express cruiser (which is ridiculously oversized). I bought a Generac i3000 and piggybacked a SPP8 onto the capacitor. Drives the air conditioner with both fridges running. Amazing, it works.

Based on the Amazon-provided review criteria, I give this device 5 stars for both "Warmth" but only 4 stars for "Thickness".In all seriousness, it was easy to install if you have some basic level of understanding of electricity (tip: turn off the breaker). It made a world of difference for me. The compressor now starts up instantly, where before it would grind and often not start properly.

2400 Yamaha generator would not run RV air conditioner. Generator would rev up and breaker would shut down not having enough power to start RV air conditioner. Installed the additional capacitor along with the existing capacitor on the air conditioner. The 2400 Yamaha generator now starts up the runs the air conditioner and handles the load of the AC running continually. Great idea and wish I would have added this capacitor years ago.
