Amazing Lock. Amazing Service!
So I'd like to do a pretty comprehensive review of this lock because I had quite an experience with multiple locks of theirs and their customer service representative.First, I'll go through the features ratings that I did on the lock.Easy to Install: Yes, very simple and easy. Comes with two keys plus a lock key tag that has specific numbers on it that you can use to order either extra keys or extra locks that match existing locks and keys.Easy to Use: Yes very easy to use. I don't see how you could not figure it out.Security features: I gave this 4 stars, and this is tied into a rather complex story that I'll get into shortly.Service: Impeccable. Customer service representative went above and beyond to solve my issue, so much as to take my request to the design team of engineers and fix the problem at the source, and re-manufacture the part to work better.Quality: Top notch quality. Super heavy duty. You would need to break or severely bend the trailer coupler before this lock ever came off.The Story: So last April, I bought one of the locks for my trailer. When taking it out. I looked it over carefully and just admired the most expensive lock I'd ever bought. On the steel ball part of the lock (which also contains the key and locking mechanism), I noticed that the locking pin that catches on the other part of the lock had some play in it. I didn't think too much about it initially and used it for a few months, but over time, it seemed to have more play in it than I remembered. I e mailed the Amplock representative after explaining the situation and sending a hand drawn diagram of the problem I was having, they sent me another lock. When I got this lock in, the new one also had a good amount of play in it, not quite as much as the old one, but enough to make me wonder why it was there and if my old one had originally had that much and gotten worse over time. I explained that situation to the representative and they eventually got back to me and said they would be addressing the issue with the design team and would be manufacturing an updated model to the lock I got that would fix the issue. It took a little over a month, but I got my new lock in. It was much better. There was still a very small amount of play in the locking pin, but far better than the last two they had sent and enough to look like it was going to be a very good long term lock.Maintenance: In order to service the lock, Amplock recommends silicone free PL-100 lubricant. I've read reviews before complaining of seized up locks from improper care and not using the proper lubricant. Despite the 5 star review on Amplock locks and their service, I feel they could improve slightly by including their recommended lubricant in their literature and Amazon listing. Heck, for $265, I think it wouldn't be a bad idea for them to include a little mini spray can of their recommended lubricant, just so people can get started off on the right foot using it and so they'll know exactly what to use.Other than that though, Amplock has really got a good product, and their customer service is very helpful and they stand behind their product. I've heard people review this item saying "this is the lock you buy after your trailer gets stolen" and I quickly realized that the current lock I had on mine was a very minor deterrent, and I run a landscaping business out of my trailer, so I wasn't going to chance it.

THIS IS THE LOCK YOU BUY AFTER YOUR FIRST TRAILER IS STOLEN
Video Surveillance showed my trailer was stolen in UNDER 4-minutes. Master Lock Pad Lock, Coupler Lock, and THE CLUB 491 tire lock were all compromised, the trailer was hitched-up and off they went with $16K in cargo plus the trailer cost $9K. (Trailer Insurance covered the trailer, but you must have home/renter insurance to cover the contents; oops.) The remnant of a trailer was found, and declared totaled. On the Market, there are GPS Trackers for Trailers that have a 5 year battery life that send alerts to your smart phone to track it down but if it gets totalled you still have a huge hassle. To deter the theft, this is the product I wish I had bought!!! The scrawny masterlock (left) next to this mamoth AMPLOCK (Right) and Abloy Padlock show that AMPLOCK will deter theft. Master Lock is a toy, look at the photo and you can see they just cut with an angle grinder just 1/4" to create a knotch (red paint from the pry bar) and pried it apart in less than 20 seconds per video surveillance. Acid, heat, drills, angle grinders and pry bars will not compromise the AMPLOCK Coupler Lock. I wish I had known about this lock, it may be pricy, but its less than an insurance deductible, and your insurance being dropped, and all the time it takes to buy a new trailer, insurance, customize it again, and all the stuff that goes in it. The thief stole a heck of a lot of my time too.The actual locking mechanism in the AMPLOCK is VERY similar and quite impressive to an Abloy lock which is the second best lock manufacturer (Sargent and Greenleaf 951C Heavy Duty Grade-7 Padlock is the best of the best padlock @$2,500). So the lock design on the AMPLOCK is about a Grade-6 in the security world) Bottom Line it will not be compromised. A thief in the night needs to be in and out in a very short period of time; less than 4 minutes. There is no way this lock can be compromised with drive up hand tools. Game over.In addition to buying this AMPLock for the coupler, I bought a Abloy Protec2 PL 330 Padlock ($110) for the hitch lock, and a Abloy Protect 2 PL 362 padlock ($295) with a ABUS Hardened Alloy 10' Chain ($110) with a sock cover. Should I leave for an extended period of time, I will put the chain through the tandem rims and around the axle for extra assurance; the sock prevents the rims from being scratched. Oh, be sure to put a set of McGard Wheel Lug Nut Locks on too. My neighbors boat was stolen recently, and he had a tire claw on his tandem axle trailer, and the thieves just took the wheel off, and drove off on three wheels. So the lug nut lock is key.The AMPLOCK is on youtube, but even that doesn't show you the side by side difference in coupler locks and the AMPLOCK. This lock is worth every penny! Nothing on the market compares to AMPLOCK, and I scoured the market. In my town, over 20 trailers are stolen every month. When mine was stolen, people in my neighborhood I didn't even know came up and told me their stories. I had no idea trailer theft was on the rise and I live in a upscale neighborhood; I just which it was gated.
