Very bright, with very strong magnets
Although the directional-pointing capabilities of this light might not be considered as robust as those lighting products with a flexible neck, there are enough positional variations to meet most situations adequately. The compensating benefit is the extremely bright LED lamp, with a good spread of light diffusion over a work area that covers one's field of view at close range (1' - 2'). The powerful fixed magnets on the base hold very well (with battery installed, the whole unit is a little on the heavy side), but the fact that the two magnets - smaller circular "dots" roughly 1" apart - are permanently fixed, means that the attachment surface needs to be about 1-1/2 to 2" wide in order to attach the light securely. I use this almost exclusively in network / server mounting rack scenarios, the frames of which mostly provide enough area to secure the unit (mostly vertical surfaces, even if only on the flat, clear spaces on cabinet-height power strips), and have found this light to be invaluable in freeing up both hands to do cable and device installation /removal tasks in tight quarters. I find myself moving the light frequently when routing cables, because of the rotating limits of the light head: it swivels about 90 - 120 degrees "up and down", and 180 degrees "side to side", so to extend the range of the light path, it is mostly just a matter of reversing the mounting orientation of the full unit by 180 degrees itself, which then reverses the range of the light coverage. Of course one can place this unit on a flat horizontal surface as well (even on the floor), and there are many opportunities to do this and still get good lighting on your task. Upside down from the top panel of an equipment rack? No problem. NOTE: As you may have already noticed, the battery and a charger are only offered as separate purchases. Not an inexpensive investment, but it is a rugged unit and I have gotten considerable usage out of it in only the two months or so I have had it. Is constructed such that it should provide long lasting performance. Battery reviewed separately, and I really haven't specifically tracked the life-between-charges, but I would say conservatively that I have used it in certain stretches for about 6 hours a day for 3 - 4 days running before needing to recharge.

Great little portable work light / spot light / flash light
This is a GREAT little portable work light / spot light / flash light (whatever you want to use it for). It won't light up a large area, but if you're working on something specific... VERY HANDY!!The battery charges very quickly and lasts for a long time. I've used it at least 12 hours and it's still on its first charge. It's small and compact... fits nicely in the palm of your hand. Has a strong beam of light, a comparable flashlight would easily cost you $40 or more (and that's just comparing the light that it emits). It has a metal belt clip, a 358 degree swivel head that rotates to almost any position. It has a little fold out stand so you can securely set it on the ground.I LOVE this feature more than I thought I would... It has built-in magnets, so it can be attached to anything metal, great for working on your car, etc. Magnets are easily strong enough to hang from anything metal... it will hang securely upside-down and you wouldn't have to worry about it coming down on your head.It can be used for hours and hours straight and the bulb (or any other parts) get hot (warm, yes.).All around GREAT little versicle and very HANDY light... inside or outside.

Not just for contractors
This review is NOT by a contractor. If you need a contractor review, please skip this one. This review is from a homeowner who needs some basic cordless tools around the house for small projects.I ordered this along with other Dewalt 12V max cordless tools. The reviews for this flashlight sold me - thanks to everyone for taking the time to share their feedback! This is a must have accessory for the 12V max LiON system. It is for the 12V max system, not the standard 12V system. 12V max is Dewalt's 12V LiON (lithium ion) system. This flashlight is AWESOME! 12V battery pack really juices this flashlight for some impressive intensity. Flashlight is comparable in size to a flashlight powered by 3 or 4 AA batteries but the brightness is incredibly more for this flashlight (all my subjective opinions - no measurable comparisons to share). Flashlight will clearly light up objects at approx 75 feet (not sure how much further). I have this to use for assorted lighting needs. Primarily, it is attached to the side of my refrigerator (magnetic case) for general use and emergencies. It is easy to access but out of the way. Compact size (6" x 3" x 2.5") allows to be stored conveniently and easily carried. Pivoting head is convenient for adjusting aim when stationary. Light will light up a room with beam pointed at ceiling (not good enough to read by but good enough to see clearly from the reflected ceiling light). Light is easy to prop up with metal kickstand. Only downside is that beam is not adjustable. From 2 feet, beam has about a 2 foot diameter with a 1 inch bright center. From 15 feet, beam has about a 12 foot diameter with a 1 foot bright center.

I've used this over and over for every automotive job imaginable and under terrible conditions. I don't have a garage
If you need a bright and reliable worklight for all manner of mechanical work, then you can't go wrong with this one. This was given to me as a gift and I didn't have many expectations. I've used this over and over for every automotive job imaginable and under terrible conditions. I don't have a garage, so I work on cars & trucks outside. It has never failed me. The combination of a tilting/rotating head and strong magnetic base make it extremely flexible. It's small enough to fit in tight spaces, but throws a powerful light. It will also last for hours. I have a recharger and two battery packs. One is always plugged in. I rotate batteries and take the light with me every day -- no joke. Many times I've gone out to my car and grabbed the light to illuminate a mechanical job at work. It's been equally helpful lighting up the woodpile in the middle of January in sub-zero conditions. Attach one to the side of your toolbox, you won't be sorry. Best portable light I've every owned hands-down.
