That blue light!
This printer was easy to set up and I printed the test page within minutes of unboxing. It’s a lightweight printer which caught me off guard at first after heaving around the one I’m replacing. But it works great. It’s fast and the output looks great. But there’s something we need to talk about. That blue light. If you’re like me and will have this in a bedroom office. Prepare for an undimable unshutoffable blue light so bright in your dark bedroom that you might think of airport landing lights or a ufo. It’s really that bright. This is the light that lets you know at all times, day or night, that your printer is connected to Wi-Fi. I looked for ways to turn this off and found a post on the hp forum that indicated there was a place in settings, to select a night time setting but I was unable to find that. I think it was for a different model. The immediate solution is to unplug the printer at night but then I forgot to plug it back in which was an ordeal when I tried to print when away at home. So I duct taped it. It took about 8 pieces of white duct tape before that outer space beacon dimmed to a dull orange. Really I have no complaints. Except for that. If anyone figures out a better solution please let me know.

Easy Setup, Scan Save Location a Mystery!
I read several reviews here that said the setup process was difficult, with some having to call HP to get that resolved. I am using a new MacBook Air running the latest version of MacOS and was prompted to use my iPhone to expedite the setup process. I did that and it was a breeze. Connected the printer to my wifi easily, entered my password, and it was done. I did create an HP account, but did not opt for the instant ink plan. I'm pretty sure that the ink cartridge in the machine will continue to work for me until it runs out, and I print very little. Once you start the subscription plan, even using the 6 month free trial, you will never be able to use that ink cartridge if you cancel the plan. In that case you'd have to buy a new toner cartridge. So printing was fast and easy, I printed a few sample pages, and also the printer stats page using the button up top. The trouble started when I wanted to scan some documents. I previously used the HP Easy Scan App, but it looks like that is no longer supported with this printer. I found the HP Smart App to be a little less friendly, but I'm adjusting to using it. The real bottleneck came when I tried to save my scanned documents. Where do they go?!? I couldn't tell..at first. After some time of searching and reading and scratching my head, I finally realized that when you save the scans to the HP Smart App, but don't subscribe to a cloud service listed in the save menu, they go to an HP Smart folder in iCloud Drive! There is virtually no documentation for this printer, beyond setting it up, and that's simply ridiculous! In the end I was able to easily save scans, and view them on my Mac, but no amount of Google searching told me how to do this. I found it by accident. I only subtracted 1 star from my review, because everything else was quite satisfactory.

first take outa box
Okay I've only had it running about 30 mins since I installed it so my review is a first impression. I honestly just fumbled into pushing the right buttons I guess because I had it up and running in about 5 mins outa the box. Maybe I was lucky, dunno. I ran a few single pages of print and there was no graphics on the prints I made. To me, print quality was fine. I did notice the single pages seemed to show a lag when printing perhaps 5 secs longer than I would have expected but acceptable. I did not run multiple pages yet so I can say how that does. Anyway, it works fine like my old HP did before that crapped out. I guess you do have to have an HP account (no big deal really) and I did have one already and for this printer I turned down the ink option. I haven't yet tried the scan feature but I rarely need to scan so not worried about it. I read tho scans need to be saved to the cloud first. So for my needs I think this printer will do fine. If you aren't looking for anything fancy and wireless, I think this printer will do fine.

Does the job
It does the job for quick prints. Great double-sided printing. The downsides are you can't scan double-sided documents and it doesn't print in color. It also appears to sleep all the time.

You Get What You Pay For
In thinking about this I probably would get the more expensive one since the scan feeder is nice. However, best feature of this printer is that it prints on both sides quickly. Perfect machine? Certainly not. Good enough? Yes, absolutely and would recommend to anyone needing an inexpensive black and white only printer.

Great for mass printing
I use this to print notes for school. It quick and does double sided. It only prints black and white however the ink is way cheaper and lasts way longer. Also it does a good job with grey scale so even colored images still print well. Also has a cool feature where it will detect low ink and automatically order a new cartridge.

Nice little unit for the price but tricky to install
I purchased 3 of these for our camp offices. Didn't realize that cable connection wasn't much of an option. If you don't have good internet this might not be the printer for you. It connects both wifi direct and through your network. HP has not done themselves any favors with HP Smart. I'm an IT professional and have installed hundreds of printers. These were not easy. Once we got them connected, though, they seem to scan, print and copy pretty well.

Love it so far 🇨🇦
I trust hp printers only and this one like others I had is working excellent , why I got the new one then ? To me after 10 years it’s normal for any device to start acting up like mine had WiFi connection issues this is how I look at it $280 investment over 10 years is $28 a year $2.50 a month , we can not expect a life time performance out of $280 printers so it’s normal to buy the new one, hope it make sense and I definitely recommend it ,

The best so far.
I have used 4 HP printers for my personal purpose during 24 years. The first one was in 1999 (US$400 HP LaserJet 4000 series - lasted 7 years) the 2nd one was HP LaserJet 1020 (US$200 and it lasted 10 yearsThe 3rd one (CA$100HP LaserJet Pro M118dw) has problem after 10 months - i think I printed too much, around 10000 pages in a week but I got a brand new for warranty from HP, and it was still being used in my houseAnd I bought the 4th one (this one - CA$200 M234dw) for my home office because i usually use the scan function.Except the price of cartridge are too high but HP LaserJet products are all perfect. Never worries about the quality. We can easily buy alternative cartridge (half of original price) or refill the ink ourselves (10% of original HP's price) with a little bit of printing quality reduce but it's acceptable.
