This is a great companion book to the endgame series
This is a great companion book to the endgame series. It gives a lot of background and is a very good read.

Meh, just ok
Really good book but the protagonist annoyed me throughout. I powered through because I loved the series, but that's the only reason.

Major downfall
Ugghh I was hoping throughout the whole book this was going to be w good book! I was super psyched to get this novella because I love Endgame so much, but I don't know what happened with James Frey with this one. His first novella for Endgame was even good. It gave me some stuff I didn't know about Endgame and a lot of more information on the Players! But what did I learn new from Zero Line, other than there was a Zero Line? Nothing. If you read even the first book of Endgame, or even the first novella, (spoiler) you know that once a Player is killed before the Calling, they get replaced. That's what the main twist was. And it wasn't even a twist for the readers, just the characters. Throughout the whole book, I was wondering what the point of killing the players were if they were getting replaced anyways. And why did John and Walter not know that they would be replaced? And Agatha as well? They know the whole process and how did they not know this? I don't see what the point of wanting to kill them was if they knew they would be replaced? I don't know, just too many plot holes, too boring of a book, I was disappointed. I read the description of each volume before I bought it, and that's the story. Mike is introduced to Zeroline (Vol. 1) Mike joins and plans out how they're gonna do everything (Vol. 2) Mike and Zeroline take action in they're plans which may or may not work(Vol. 3).Overall, my least favorite book in the series but I AM SO PUMPED FOR THE RULE OF THE GAME! I can't see Frey messing this book up at all, it's too good not to be messed up. So yes, this book was a flaw nearly irrelevant to the story, but still by far my favorite series.Don't keep me waiting too long James, I already have the Rule of the Game preordered, read ya soon!

Parents and young readers beware- mega violence, mega boring
My 11 year old son was reading the book, and I picked it up out of curiousity. I was shocked at the unethical behavior of the characters. A list of some of the activites the characters engage in: petty theft, armed robbery, torture, and murder. Now I understand why my son was not sleeping well while reading this book!A note- I am not the type of parent to have a zero tolerance policy with regard to violence. I understand my kids are exposed to all sorts of negativity from friends, TV, etc... so I talk to them about the difference between right and wrong. This book goes way beyond any reasonable line... what author writes a book for young adults with repeated instances of cold blooded murder of police officers and other teens? Hard to believe. It's almost beside the point that the book is very poorly written. The plot is not credible, there are factual errors galore, and the writing completely fails to engage.I prefer books in a more positive vein for my kids, such as the Amplified (Balancing Light Book One) (Castellano) or The 5th Wave (Book 1 & 2) - quality reads!
