Ryobi sliding miter saw
I am a 34 year old women who has never used a saw before. I saw all the beautiful projects made by the shanty2chic ladies and thought, if they can do it so can I. They use Ryobi tools, so i bought this saw. It is extremely user friendly! I used it to put up the chair rail and window frame molding in my dining room, since then I have put up baseboard molding and built picture frames! My husband is so impressed he now asks me to build him things, i say it's not me it's the saw!!

Good saw but overpriced at $299
This saw is very good quality for a consumer-grade tool. Its biggest weakness is the bolts which need to be loosened for fence alignment. Mine came from the vendor with the bolts over-torqued, and the recessed hex sockets promptly stripped out. However, the fence can be re-aligned by putting a (broad) block of wood against it and judiciously tapping with a mallet. Other than that, add a Diablo 80-tooth blade and you get an excellent tool. I got mine for $169 (June 2018), and you should be able to find it for $199.

The reviews were somewhat mixed but this is a great consumer-grade product
The reviews were somewhat mixed but this is a great consumer-grade product. Smooth, powerful, and lightweight. The click settings were positive and I had no problem using the saw out of the box. Love it!!!! The only thing is that the dust collector doesn't do anything - but this is true for almost all my other shop equipment. Plan to have a lot of sawdust cleanup.

unable to adjust gate or saw/arm to better than a 1/8th inch on a six-inch cut
Tinkered with this one for a few hours, unable to adjust gate or saw/arm to better than a 1/8th inch on a six-inch cut, closer to a quarter inch on an 8"+ cut. Sloppy craftsmanship for what may have been a great saw otherwise. Didn't fare much better on the stops for 90 degrees either.

Poor design: the saw table is not level. Beware of unintended bevels
I used the tool for a few weeks and could not get perfectly square cuts on 0 bevel, setting and resetting the fence and blade. After much head scratching I decided to test the basic assumption that the table is square and is not. It turns out the center of the saw table (the round part) sits above the lateral supports (where the no hands signs are). I thought this would be an assembly error but found the same problem in 3 separate saws, including a demo unit in the store, so this is not assembly sloppiness, is tool design. It is easy to check with a rafter square: sit it next to the fence, press it to one side of the table and you will see anything 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch rise in the other side. That pressing is what the clamp does, so when cutting stock using the clamp, the material is not square to the blade no matter how well you tune it. If you are doing rough cuts (decking, exterior work, cutting to rough length) this may not be a problem for you. If you are trying to get crisp angles, find another tool.

Check the blade before cutting!
When I first purchased this saw, I ensured every nut and bolt was tensioned appropriately during set-up. But after about 50 cuts of 1x6, the blade came loose mid cut! It actually wobbled around beneath the blade guard at a very high rate of speed. Clearly, this is a very dangerous scenario. I have been checking the bolt that secures the blade before each use and found that it became loose twice now. I can't say that I've ever experienced that with any saw before. I value my fingers way too much to trust using this any more!
