Lovely story beautifully illustrated.
I’m a big fan of artist Salman Toor, which led me to this lovely book written by Amitav Ghosh and illustrated by Toor. Ghosh adapted the verse from a medieval Bengali tale about the forest goddess Bon Bibi. Ghosh’s verse and Toor’s illustrations create the kind of deep mystery that the best of ancient stories unfold for readers of all ages. Toor is a rising artist who was given a well deserved solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum in NYC last year, putting the book in league with other’s that have been illustrated by master artists over the centuries.

An impressive translation.
I thought it was an excellent translation of an old story usually recited as a poem. Also liked the way the writer kept some of the words in the original language without losing a beat.

Disappointed
I'm an admirer of Ghosh but rather disappointed with this book. First of all, for an 80 pages book, why should one pay 500 odd bucks. Secondly, illustrations are juvenile. Narrative style is really interesting but it's in verse.

Awesome 👍
It's very nice story, narrated in an awesome way. I loved to read books by Amitav Ghosh. It took just a few hours to finish it...it's so addictive.
