This double CD brings together many of the works that established the reputation of the composer and keyboardist known as Vangelis. These selections are drawn from the 1970's, when after stints with a number of bands, Vangelis began to focus exclusively on his solo career. It is these recordings that brought the composer to the attention of big audiences and pre-dated his success in the 1980's and 1990's. 15 tracks. 2001.

Identical to the "Greatest Hits" album
Please notice that the tracks on this product are identical to those on "Vangelis - Greatest Hits". Not that it is a bad thing but that album is usually priced lower than this album. This 2-CD set is very good but probably not really Vangelis' best work. But then again, it does not claim to be a "best of" album but instead it claims to be a "greatest hits" album.

Great fan of Carl Sagan and Vangelis
I watched Cosmos religiously back in the day. Great fan of Carl Sagan and Vangelis. Loved the series and loved the music.

Cosmos Music
I rate this CD as only average because I was hoping to hear the same inspiring music I enjoyed listening to on Carl Sagan's TV series, but it didn't come across to me that way.

I am glad this music is still available.
I like Vangelis! His music is soothing, inspiring and beautiful. I place him with Kitaro and Ray Lynch after Beethoven.

Flawed genius
Vangels music has played the soundtrack of most of my adult life. It is a pity that he has faded from view so much in recent years. It is a pity too that he has, on occasion, launched into some self-indulgent cacophanies such as Beaubourg; the 10 minutes and thirty-five seconds of which knocks the heart out of the first disc of this collection. Nevertheless there are some of his greatest pieces here, notably To The Unknown Man, Alpha and the theme from 'Cosmos'. All these I have elsewhere but to put his 'spacy' pieces together is a worthy effort. However, at only just over 40 minutes per disc I felt rather short changed. Hence the less than perfect score that Vangelis usually evokes from me.

Beautiful music, both discs play perfectly.
I bought this as a present for someone who likes Carl Sagan's Cosmos and it was well received. The music is beautiful and both discs play perfectly in our CD player.

Beautiful.
Really beautiful and evocative music especially the track that reminds me of Dr Sagan. It was certainly a good choice and it took but a few days to arrive.
