Watson-Guptill Learn Calligraphy: The Complete Book of Lettering and Design

I bought this book recently after having purchased a glass dip pen while on holiday and wanted to get some use out of it, so it seemed a good fit. However, as a beginner I found this book very convoluted and inconsistent. Some things that would make life easier (e.g. a capital and lowercase example of the fonts in each chapter) are missing, or partially there in one chapter and absent in others. Also, the way in which its written has been in hand written calligraphy which is a nice touch but makes it very messy to read on some pages.In short, if your a beginner look elsewhere as this will likely melt your mind. If you have experience and are looking to work in your technique it might be right for you.

I was given so many options I felt overwhelmed with choice. I feel like there should be a simplified version of calligraphy and plenty of examples to copy and space to write in the book.Think about how you teach a child to write, that’s the way you should be teaching me.Don’t give me 20 different alphabets.

Superb book that takes you step by step through the art of calligraphy. Not only is there a bit of background, it gives you tips, styles and even some exercises to try. This must surely be the go-to book for starting out in this art form.

Margaret shepherd has done very well job. She actually know how to do caligraphy very well. This books contains 6+ different types of caligraphy methods. You can choose whatever suits you and start learning for that part.Great work. I really appreciate hardwork she has done in making this book. Too good.Go for it. A good book. I like the way all the text is hand written by the author.
