I GENIETTI Fish Scaler, Silver

I like fish, so much I raise them for a living. So I go through a lot of fish. and let me tell you, scaling is annoying and dirty. so most of the times I just don't do it. I waste a little of the meat to skin the fish instead. But that's lame too, and sometimes I want to grill the fish skin on, so scaling is needed. I saw this item and wanted to give it a go. From the single picture I thought this would be a solid hunk of steel, but when I got it, to my surprise it is a molded, bent, flat sheet of steel, so the underside is hollow. My initial reaction was to feel cheated, and I thought this was a cheap piece of metal. But from reading the package insert (which apparently is an italian brand), sounds like it's hollow for a reason. Turns out, when I used it, the hollow underside is meant to catch the scales as you scrub the fish, so the scales don't fly all over the place. Cool! I still would've liked a bit more heft at the handle, because it does get a little bit uncomfortable holding the hollow and the thin metal edge on your fingers after a while, but it really does its job well! Maybe they can improve this in a newer version? For now, I'm just going to wrap some tape or something around the handle for comfort sake. It really does work well.I receive this item at a discount for review, but its rated on its merits alone.

this works great on fish scales but not much else. scratched the crap out of myself trying to use it as a comb, (seriously, it takes scales off fishes what is there to review?)

Works great! I love eating fish but have always struggled with cleaning them. I've tried to buy fist without the skin but truth is you just can't avoid it. I've always known how important it is to make sure the scales are properly cleaned off so I would use a knife and rub in the opposite direction ~ thank goodness those days are over!!This little gadget worked really well! I just followed the picture on the packaging and cleaned in the direction of the scales moving back and forth over them, and rinsing under water. I could tell it did a great job because I remember the scales look shiny and when you've properly cleaned the scales off then the skin looks duller. The tool was really easy to hold too. My hands aren't as bit as my husband's but I didn't have any trouble gripping the scrubber too. The other feature I really liked was that it didn't slip out of my hand the way the knife I used to use did ~ it made it so much easier and the entire process was faster.I would definitely gift this to family and friends! I can see where it would make a great addition to a new homeowner or bridal couple in a basket of kitchen gadgets. It's nice to include gadgets that make preparing foods faster and easier.I was fortunate that I received this scrapper at a discount, every little bit of savings help, in exchange for my review and I simply couldn't be happier! I love eating trout and salmon and am so happy to have them back in my diet more!!

This works really well. I love fish, but preparing them is not my forte. This is a great way to scrub and make sure the fish is properly cleaned. Definitely worth having in the kitchen.
