Something to get used to
It's certainly decorative. The horn part is a bit thicker than I would have expected and while it saves the back of my shoes from being crushed every time I try to put them on, the thickness doesn't make it as easy as I would have liked to get them on. I'm used to the old fashioned silver shoehorns that are about as thin as a dime and have a wide curve. I was paying more attention to the length than I was to the horn portion. Plus, I'm not sure if you're supposed to only use this when you're sitting down. I'm 6' and if I try to put my shoes on standing up it becomes something of a tap dance. However, it does work but it takes a bit to get used to.

Shoehorn
I purchased this for my wife a few years back. She has a spinal cord injury and I thought this shoehorn would ease the task of putting on shoes. It has a flexible piece between the horn and handle that helps when trying to wiggle the heel into the shoe. It has worked well but the horn and flexible piece eventually came off the wooden handle. This happened some time back. I repaired it with duct tape and it has held together since. If not for the repair, I would have given it five stars.

I can't believe I put so much effort into choosing a shoe horn...
See, I have this one pair of slip-on shoes that fit great, but they put up a fuss to slide in to.I dug out one of those cheapy plastic shoe horns that sometimes comes in the box with a new pair of shoes. It did OK, but I had to sit down to use it IF I could find the dang thing, it was so small.Got around to looking up shoe horns here on Amazon and couldn't believe HOW COMPLICATED they can be -- plastic versus metal, spring versus solid, optimal length, reliability, carbon emissions (bah!)...But seriously, this is a fine little shoe stick. I leave in on the mail table by the front door, sticking up from the basket. The length seems to be a perfect compromise between "easy to store" and "easy to use." I don't have to bend down excessively to shimmy my fat heel into my shrunken shoe -- I can even do it while holding my 2 year old son with my other arm. I've been using mine daily for something approaching 6 months, and it doesn't feel weak, fragile, loose or brittle. Most importantly, it's big enough it doesn't get lost around the house.I find that I even reach for it with my less difficult to slip on shoes, and even the pair of sneakers with elastic laces.

Almost useless due to spring.
I don't understand the reasoning behind putting a spring at the end of a shoe horn. This makes the shoe horn almost useless because you lose leverage at the spring. Pry the back of your shoe all you want... it's not going anywhere. The spring is flexing instead. WTF?

Long reach
This is a pretty good little tool for us old people with very bad backs. It works great, but the rubber end that allows you to hang it up somewhere is not held on with glue or anything else. I had to pull it off and use some sort of glue that works with rubber or soft plastic and wood. I have it hanging up in a very convenient place.

Worked well for 8 years...
I just snapped the plastic "horn" end on mine and was kinda miffed, so I came to Amazon to complain. I searched my past orders and found out I bought this item 8+ years ago, so, I'm not miffed anymore. Moral of the story? When you're getting old enough to need an item like this, your memory is failing also! :P

It is excellent and long lasting.
I bought one of these probably 15 years ago, from their company's website, back before everything was on Amazon. I have been fairly rough on it and have used it every day. It is still good as new. It is such a luxury tool to use and it is also nice looking hanging in my bedroom. (I have the maple.) It is among my most favorite and useful things I own. I just bought another to keep by the back door. And it's made in the USA!

better than sliced bread
Excellent product, value and customer service. A long-handle shoe horn is a must-have creature comfort that is, as "they" say, "better than sliced bread." Anyone can enjoy it, but especially an older person or anyone who can't touch their toes as easily as they used to. I first discovered long-handle shoe horns years ago when I found it in my Paris hotel room. I stole it. After many years of service the plastic horn broke so I had two choices: return to Paris or shop on Amazon.com. I took the cheaper route and am delighted. Not only is it functional, but it is made very well, using wood, plastic, rubber and a springy device. It is much better than the one I stole in Paris.
