Women of colour inspiration
I’m a Brownie leader for Girlguiding UK and we sometimes like sharing inspirational stories of what women can achieve.I haven’t read any of the other books but have seen the titles before and had a glimpse of a few pages from a couple of Brownies who were using it as a project on a zoom meeting.100 Brilliant stories of black women who have filled their dream despite either being a woman, being black or both. Some have achieved great things because they followed their own dream and others achieved because of discrimination that they wouldn’t have felt the need for had they not been discriminated against. It was also lovely to include the stories of those who are gay and transgender because transgender women are women.I have recommended this book to my make boss for his two young daughters. I think the word rebel is off putting thinking that I was encouraging anarchy but this is far from it. This is simply real women developing their beliefs and being true to themselves.Written in simple to understand language and beautifully illustrated, I would recommend this book. Will definitely read others in the series.#RebelGirlsCelebrateBlackGirlMagic

Absolutely fantastic!!
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!Absolutely fantastic!! A joy of a read honestly, with lovely artwork of each woman. The book focuses on a range of women: historical and recent, a mixture of backgrounds, religions, large and small scale impacts, and those who were old, young and middle aged when they achieved success. Each story is a snapshot of one page, but it’s still rich enough to be satisfying. And there’s always Google for those you want to know even more about. I’d say a good 85% I hadn’t know about beforehand—although many I had been impacted by without realising. It’s also a very nice touch that most stories start with “Once upon a time” or their introductions are written as a fairy tale would be. I can imagine care givers reading this to children while they lie in bed, exactly as intended; it’s a lovely way to recognise and celebrate black excellence, as well as showing that things are still not as they should be, that we’re still having to work for equal opportunity and unity. Also I really liked the activity section in the back, thought that was a nice touch.

Powerful
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC.This was a powerful, moving and inspiring collection of stories about 100 incredible black women.I hadn't even heard of half of them so I'm very glad I got to learn more about these wonderful women. I ended up googling pretty much everyone after reading their story and I think the short bios in this book are a great way to teach children and get them interested in the history and resilience of Black women.I certainly have some new heroes after reading this and wish we had more villages Umoja.Buy this book for every child you know.

Engaging stories of inspirational women of colour
Beautifully illustrated and inspiring stories focusing on a wide range of backgrounds and professions. The stories are skilfully condensed to give enough information to be engaging without being overwhelming.Accessible for children but also a very interesting read for adults too.

they couldn't find enough black women so included so men too
The author misgendered Marsha P Johnson to shoehorn him on despite him describing himself as a male transvestite.
