Good resource but some images are blurred. Would have loved more on common issues e.g. tips for dementia or Parkinson's.

This was a good book and touched on everything

I am a massive fan of the 'at a glance' series of guides. I find them very easy to use as a reference text, packed full of relevant information, no superfluous language - the information is exactly what you need, and the illustrations that come with the text are also relevant and well done. The 'Moving and Handling Patients AAG' is no different. In part one of the guide you move from legislation and theory, which includes how to assess risk and why you assess it through to part two that deals with individual advice on moving patients in various situations and locations. The guide then finishes off with two worked case studies, which are very relevant to today's practice: i.e. Bariatric patients and dressing someone's leg ulcer in a community setting. Another very good concise 'at a glance' guide. I just wish they'd do these in a pocket sized version, but not worth knocking off a star.

This is a very comprehensive study guide for anyone training or working - in nursing, as health care assistants, home carers, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, as well as anyone who has to manage or train new front line staff who will be working directly with patients. It is very clear, easy to understand and it covers not just the practical side, but also the theory behind the practice. It also ventures into ergonomics with a view to protecting the health worker both in their caring role and when they are doing their paperwork.The book is in two parts - the first part covers the theory, the second covers the practical. In part two, it covers: Load handling and practical application of ergonomics; Moving a patient in and out of a chair and walking; Sitting a patient up, and in and out of bed; Moving a patient within the bed; Use of hoists and slings; Lateral transfers; Other handling equipment - and case studies. And as well as comprehensive notes, there are many photographs and diagrams to support understanding and learning.This is an excellent book and, I have to say, I don't believe it is just for professionals. There are very many people who provide personal care for loved ones who would really benefit from the information in relevant parts of this book - and it would make a superb resource for any training provided to those care-givers who do this for their family members. (Something local authorities ought to be doing..)
