Q: Does this unit get too hot to handle during use?

Depends on what drive is inside and what you are doing with it. If you are doing a sustained copy of 100+ GB on a high performance drive you should expect that it is going to get fairly hot. Keep in mind that this is because this case is passively cooled and that the same drive would be hot to the touch inside your computer case as well with the same workload. Shorter copy operations should not be an issue, and planning to give the case a few minutes of idle time to passively cool down after a massive data transfer should be sufficient for it to reach a comfortable temperature. Everyone's heat tolerance and setup specifications are different so ymmv.

Q: Can you use a thermal pad on top of the SSD and still slide it into the enclosure?
