Decided to save a few bucks by refinishing the cheap outdoor furniture we bought during COVID from Wayfair a 5 years ago. Never before treated the wood and neglected proper protection during some winters. I bought the three step Star Brite process and it totally gave our tired furniture new life! Just a fair warning that this will take time. I had 4 chairs and 1 table and each of those pieces took approximately 3 hours each for the cleaner, brightener, and a couple coats of oil. You're looking at 15 hours of labor for the furniture I have photographed. The cleaner part of the process took the most time and effort. I used a metal scrub ball and it was wonderful but required more care and attention at the corners and hard to reach places. I'm also meticulous so some areas needed a second round of cleaning after I let it dry and saw some missed areas. I ended up using the entire 32 oz each of the cleaner and oil for this set and bought and extra bottle of step 1 and 3 just to finish the job. I do still think I may do a bit of light sanding (that I should have done after step 1) in another month and oil again. I loved the outcome even considering the amount of work. I'm a SAHM and it took me a good week and a half to finally get it all done. I'm hopeful that by oiling twice a year from now on I can extend the life of my furniture. I feel better restoring instead of replacing and honestly I think it looks better now with the signs of weathering than it did brand new. The original color of the wood from the factory was more red but I like this more pale color in the end. I did the majority of the work on my stone patio which I protected with a tarp during the cleaning and brightening process. I moved the furniture to the lawn to oil just to and drips on the tarp/stone that would get on my shoes and spread. I kept the hose by me and constantly cleaned out the metal scrub pad while doing step 1. The amount of grime that came off was substantial and I had to pressure wash the patio after, but honestly after the furniture was looking good I had to bring the rest of the space up snuff. If you have the time and energy, this 3 step process was very effective and saved me a bunch of money from buying new.

Minimum effort and amazing results. TIP... Watch the video. Let the cleaner sit a couple minutes to work before you start scrubbing. The video recommends the medium red scrubber which works great for flat surfaces, but I prefer to use this one instead because you can thread it between tight slats in tables and chairs. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0064N14MU I also apply this with a cheap pressurized garden sprayer (or any recycled spray bottle) which is more practical and wastes less product when working with furniture Vs. flat surfaces where you can just pour it on. Spray it onto dry wood and let it sit a couple of minutes and the rest is cake. Follow with Teak Brighenter which is even easier. Just spray it on, let it sit, and hose it off. Let it dry then finish with an oil or sealer. Finally... To oil or to seal, that is the question.. Indoors - Use Teak Oil Outdoors - Teak Oil or Star brite Teak Sealer Star brite Teak Sealer lasts much longer and is very durable and easy to touch up. It has a flat finish and is more like a stain, so don't apply too thick and wipe off the excess so you see the grain. 1 coat is usually enough. When it is time to refinish or touch up scuffs, it is very forgiving and lets you apply new over old (until there is too much build-up). Sealer is not compatible with oil, so you much pick one or the other and the wood must be completely free of oil to apply sealer. I prefer the Classic Teak Sealer color because it looks just like oiled teak in tone. Teak Oil looks rich and semi-gloss depending on how many coats you apply. The trade-off for enhanced beauty is that it must be refinished every season (if outdoors), but it is very easy to clean off and reapply. Both are great choices and I use them both for different pieces. Star brite Teak Oil is a marine-grade premium blend of oils and will outlast the cheap linseed teak oils. You get what you pay for.
