In this 71 minute CD, rare recordings of a young Rory Block and Stefan Grossman are featured. As well, the original landmark 1964 Elektra release of their How To Play Blues Guitar (plus out-takes) is presented. This is an enhanced CD and features a PDF file of tab/music for all the tunes from How To Play Blues Guitar. After these tracks were recorded Rory went on to record solo albums and be the Winner of five WC Handy Blues Music Awards. Stefan went on to record solo albums as well as the highly acclaimed duet albums with John Renbourn. He has also authored countless guitar books on the Country Blues.

A very nice collection ---
I am very happy with this purchase. I put it on my little bedside Sony CD player, select "repeat", and let it play all night.

Great slide tunes
Really good selection of slide tunes to learn early Rory Block and Stefan Grossman’s playing styles. Be careful that you don’t get a bootleg or bad copy. The bad copies don’t include the tab booklet. Had to send the first one back. Glad I used Amazon vs eBay for this one.

NOT AS ADVERTISED, SHEET MUSIC PDF NOT INCLUDED ON CD
DO NOT BUY IT FROM THIS PARTICULAR SELLER, whoever that may be. The music on this CD is great but if that's all you want, it's on Spotify and available elsewhere. I bought it because the description said it had a .pdf of the sheet music, tablature, on the disc. IT DOES NOT. Also, there is no metadata which means that this is quite possibly a bootleg. I would strongly suggest either buying it direct from Stefan Grossman's site, where I believe it is still available.I would like to return it but don't have the time to go find a Kohl's or whatever to drop it off and it's more trouble than it's worth. This is absolutely NOT what it says it is. I am pretty disappointed and feel somewhat cheated because I really wanted to have the songs and the tab to learn and play along and now I have to buy it again somewhere else.

Classic Acoustic Early Blues and young Rory
This is a rare opportunity to hear young Rory Block, and hear her talent at a young age as she plays the older country blues. Rory Block is today's Guitar Queen of the blues. She plays with the heart of the Delta in her soul.

Country Blues Guitar
The core of this album is "How to Play Blues Guitar" by Stefan Grossman and Rory Block (Sunshine Kate) , an "LP" which was released in the 1970's and has attained legendary status (amongst us old fogies) as instructional country blues guitar. The novel (at the time) addition of tablature for the tracks on the LP is also on the cd. Fourteen additional tracks by Grossman and Block are also on the cd. The packaging and accompanying information are, as is usual with Stefan Grossman, excellent. This makes a perfect companion to "How to Play Ragtime Guitar" by Stefan Grossman and Ton Van Bergeyk now also available on cd for the first time.

Miam miam!
How+to+play+blues+guitar+stefan+grossman) . En bonus 14 chansons dans le même style sont présentes sur le cd (pas de tablatures par contre pour ces chansons). Acheté chez le vendeur "Musique pour vous" pour moins de 14 euros, ce cd devrait ravir les amateurs du genre.

Country Blues Guitar
There have been a couple of excellent releases in this Stefan Grossman series. When Stefan visited England in the 1970s, there were already some fine British Blues musicians and bands on the scene - to mention just a couple that I personally knew, Jo Ann and Dave Kelly, Tony McPhee, and so on- and Grossman was so impressed by Jo Ann Kelly that he actually asked her to record with him. Unfortunately, compared with the other discs, the "Country Blues Guitar" album, recorded between 1963 and 1971, is, like the proverbial parson's egg, only excellent in parts. If, like me, you can still vividly remember the shock and excitement of hearing the original Skip James' brilliant and eerie "I'm so Glad", then I'm afraid you can only be disappointed with Rory Block's rather anaemic version. The same applies to her "Walking Blues". Several white musicians have made very credible copies of R.Johnson's classic Delta Blues, but in my personal opinion, Ms Block cannot be numbered among them. Listen, on this CD, to the tracks by Son House (who strongly influenced Johnson) to hear how the Blues should really be played and sung. Another potential drawback for people considering purchasing this CD is that tracks 15 to 32 (more than half the total tracks) are from the original "How To Play Blues Guitar" record. If you want to learn these songs, the CD plus the accompanying PDF file (which you can download free) will be of interest. Otherwise, you may think it a waste of money to have 16 tracks which are designed as samples and all less than two minutes long. Overall, if you don't mind spending your money for just the remaining 14 tracks, then there IS some very good guitar on here.
