Product Description Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan star in an enchanting romance about a widower whose son convinces him to find new love and the woman who answers his call. desertcart.com The director and stars of 1998's You've Got Mail scoreda breakthrough hit with this hugely popular romantic comedy from 1993, about a recently engaged woman (Meg Ryan) who hears the sad story of a grieving widower (Tom Hanks) on the radio and believes that they're destined to be together. She's single in New York, he lives in Seattle with a young son, but the cross-country attraction proves irresistible, and pretty soon Meg's on a westbound flight. What happens from there is ... well, you must have been living in a cave to have let this sweet-hearted comedy slip below your pop-cultural radar. There's little complexity or depth to writer-director Nora Ephron's cheesy tale of a romantic fait accompli, and more than a little contrivance to the subplots that threaten to keep Hanks and Ryan from actually meeting. But the purity of star chemistry here is hard to deny, and this may be the first film to indicate the more serious and sympathetic side of Hanks that is revealed in later roles. With its clever jokes about "chick movies" and repeated homage to the classic weeper An Affair to Remember, this may not be everybody's brand of amorous entertainment, but it's got an old-Hollywood charm that appeals to many a movie fan. --Jeff Shannon Review: Sleepless in Seattle - Good movie Review: Great movie - ❤️

Sleepless in Seattle continues to delight
I can’t count how many times my wife and I have watched Sleepless in Seattle, but it’s been enough... and when Amazon had a great deal we got it streaming to add to our streaming library. I’ll have to admit - I love everything up to the point Hanks and Ryan get together - I have never been a fan of their chemistry or more to the point, lack there of. But the film is a great ride and has countless charming moments and great acting. This is a story of daring to love again. The relationship between the son and father hinges on them moving on after the death of Hank’s onscreen wife. They were deeply in love and he’s hurting. On the other coast Meg has spent her life doing what’s expecting, being boring, and now she’s getting engaged to the wrong guy - who’s far too much the right guy. (again, I’m a bigger fan of she and that guy staying together, as she and Hanks just do not click - my wife agrees). But beyond that everything is a great ride. The cast is outstanding, the characters interesting and unique, and the story itself is good - a fun RomCom. On the other side, this movie has given us some fun and memorable moments - Rosie and Meg crying over old movies, Hanks’ real life wife, Rita, crying over old movies, Hanks and Gray crying over old movies... and the radio host giving us some of the original “real world drama” on Christmas night - when Meg sings Horses, horses, horses... This is a date night film, a Sunday afternoon, cuddle with your wife, or rainy day way to spend some time enjoying something delightful.

A romantic comedy gem that has stood the test of time
What a pleasure to see this romantic comedy classic restored with crisp imagery and sound. The plot rolls the dice on a hugely unlikely premise, but it does not matter, not only because of the first-rate acting, dialogue, and soundtrack, but because the movie is about deeper things -- holding the self and a family dyad together in the face of devastating and lingering loss, while trying to rebuild; coming to terms with one's own romantic needs, in spite of one's "better" judgment; and above all, being willing to take a risk when fate offers you an unlikely second chance. Meg Ryan, as Annie, was at the peak of her considerable charm and star power here, and Tom Hanks, as Sam, wisely refused to let the film get too sentimental; his arguments with his son Jonah (Ross Malinger) later in the film, and Hanks' now-classic bit with Victor Garber (Greg) losing it over that famed, um, tearjerker, "The Dirty Dozen," provided great comedic balance. Rosie O'Donnell, in the best friend role of "Becky," was never funnier while also being sympathetic -- her facial expressions top even her hilarious line deliveries about "her Rick." Bill Pullman (as Walter, a truly thankless role) has a ridiculously mild reaction to being dumped by Annie, but this was a classic Nora Ephron move; she had an interesting weakness for unrealistic soft landings (see also Meg Ryan-Greg Kinnear in "You've Got Mail"; Pullman was given a much richer character in "While You Were Sleeping," with Sandra Bullock). You don't ultimately mind, though, because by that point in the film you so want Annie to find Jonah and Sam on the top of the ESB. And when Sam and Annie finally hold hands -- "Magic." That is the genius of Sleepless in Seattle.

Reaction to "Sleepless In Seattle" by a sleepless college guy
I heard about this movie in a college class last semester. We had to do group presentations on films and one group did theirs on "Sleepless In Seattle." It looked as if a 'girly' love story but the fact that Tom Hanks was in it made it okay for me to be interested. Fast forward about four months and I accidentally watched this film thanks to my Amazon Prime account. 'Sleepless' was how I was feeling when I decided to watch 22-year-old movie. Side-note: I can't believe that 1993 was that long ago. Tom Hanks makes every movie good by just appearing in it. The same can be said about "Sleepless in Seattle," where Hanks portrayed a Chicagoan turned Seattleite, named Sam Baldwin. As I live in Chicago's suburbs myself, the opening scene with the city's downtown - and later images of its other remarkable views - were a sight for sore eyes. Those images had me interested from the get-go as I could relate to the character in some way right away. Listed as a romantic comedy-drama, the film lives up to all of the listed genres. It is about a romantic love story that started accidentally because of a radio station. Sorry, it was a 'sign.' (If you saw the movie you'll understand the joke.) The class in which I heard about this film for the first time was Interpersonal Communication. We had been studying relationships and how people tend to act in certain situations. I remember that the group making the presentation on this film found that this movie is an ideal representation of relationships. Meg Ryan (who played the leading female role, Annie Reed) looked beautiful in this film and Ross Malinger (portrayed Jonah Baldwin, the 8-year-old son of Sam) did an outstanding job. I also thought that the music was a great choice. To my delight, I found out that one of the songs actually received a nomination for an Academy Award
