Unique
Great book. Well written. Apt selection of movies and recipes. Including an index in the next version could be considered.

cultural experience for all the senses
What an awesome book! - is all I can say. We have loved nearly all the movies featured in the book and have learned a lot about Indian values, aesthetics, hopes, fears, and dreams - and flavors. The recipes are adapted for the American kitchen, but require some skill and time to prepare. The dinner that goes with the movie Haider (Himalayan Shepherd's Pie and Squash Soup) is a staple dinner in our house now, and we also make the coconut chutney regularly. To learn about another culture, and to make and eat good food - it doesn't get any better than this for me.

Easy Indian cooking at home!
Great book that makes cooking Indian food very accessible for the home cook as well as explaining Bollywood and providing you with movies to watch and explanations of them. I've made the Keema, which is to die for and the Rajma which is great. This book is good for people who like Indian food, but were afraid to cook it because other books were too complicated. The recipes are very simple and straightforward. I also bought the book because I found out the author is from the Harrisburg, PA area where I live. This book is well thought out and easy to cook from and worth it for anyone who loves Indian food, but doesn't want to go out to a restaurant to get it.

Beautiful and fascinating glimpse into a different culture
I love this book! It's beautiful and fascinating. The author's writing style makes you feel like you've stepped into his home as a guest and he's enthusiastically inviting you to enjoy the movies and the food. I'm not sure I will actually watch any of the movies but I have seriously enjoyed reading about them. I feel like this is great introduction to a different culture. I love the interesting notes about the actors' off screen antics and the Indian movie industry in general. And I especially enjoyed how he talks about his mom and what the recipes mean to him. Really great stuff! I haven't tried a recipe yet; I'll update this review when I do. It looks like the recipes are generally healthy and I can definitely see myself expanding my Indian food repertoire from chicken tikka and chicken korma now...And no more jarred simmering sauces for me! I can make them from scratch now.
