MegaBrands Magnext Dynamix Advanced Gears and Elektronix

Starting form the box the thing is huge, I was expecting it to be smaller more similar to the other sets I own. the unboxing is fairly easy and everything is neatly packaged except for the 3 gears on the try it side of the box; this ones are properly tied to the box from the inside.Now the good, the construction of the pieces with magnets inside is better. This set has polarization marks unlike others I own which make it easier to assembly the models. Most of the pieces on this set are rotating pieces and the joints construction seems really sturdy and so far I haven't experienced jams or similar problems while the game is in motion. I haven't noticed wear marks on the gears or the moving parts yet. (Although the set has been heavily used for over 3 weeks now). This thing is fully compatible will all the other magnext sets I have.The center unit is where the magic comes from. It uses 3 AA batts (not included), it has two switches one for clockwise and the other for counterclockwise movement. switches are to be pressed with one of the spheres but you can use your finger as well. it doesn't make more noise than any other electrical toy and the battery consumption is not too high (one-two charges per week using 2700mAH batts). no funny noises or outages on the center unit ATM.The base is made of nice quality plastic and is really strong. The full set weights over 3 lbs. that without additionnal parts. and with additional parts I guess i have loaded the base with around 5 lbs and the base stays solid. I'd dare to say it can withheld a child standing on it. The highlighted details still have the paint on and the corner sockets don't have stretch nor wear marks.The pipe like thingie feels a bit "weak" but it doesn't affect the set performance, since u are unable to overload this piece because when u try to, the parts will rest on the sturdy base so no risk of breaking there.There are several different constructions options, Although the included "manual" only shows five constructions.Now the bad, The "manual" don't have much information just a top and angled view of 5 builds, no additional builds available on the website, so far its the only con I've found on this setThis set can be further enhanced by adding other magnext sets parts, and its a great toy to improve creative thinking and to learn how magnetism works.Overall a great set on its own, and even better when you add more sets to it. Loses a star for the "manual" but hey that leaves more room for imagination

Bought this for my grandson. He loves it. He loves to create and has several more parts added to this set. Great quality. Will buy again.

This might be an excellent toy for a child with Aspergers syndrome. There are a very limited number of things you can do with it, mostly spinning gears that can make some limited geometric contructions built on special pieces spin. My six year old daughter did not like it paticularly, and played with it for less than an hour. She definitely likes the regularly Magnext.The battery powered motor unit (the puck looking item) is weak. However, the pieces do work with regular Magnext, and a clever child can do some interesting things, i.e. a set of propellers, etc. using this set. Definitely NOT worth full price, but the pieces are worth about $10 or so for an advanced builder. If they would have made more interesting pieces, the set could have been a blast.

Bought as a Christmas present for my son. Great product. He enjoys using his imagination with these!
