I ordered this thermometer because my 2 year-old kiddo had a fever and getting him to agree to let me stick a thermometer in his ear was nearly impossible.The item arrived while he was still sick and boy what a difference it made. Taking his temperature went from a struggle to something I could do quickly and easily.The temperature reading on this device matched the ear thermometer nearly perfectly (I tested it a few times on the kiddo when it wasn't such a struggle, and many times on myself).The biggest deal is that this thermometer has a hard switch to turn off all sound, which makes it possible to use easily when he's asleep. It may sound like a small deal, but it made a huge difference.As for the ear and ambient modes, they work fine but they aren't why I bought the device, so I can't say much more about the them.

I love, love, love this thermometer! We had a forehead thermometer that always seemed to run a bit cool and was a bit difficult to figure out how to use properly (the low readings could have been user error). We swapped it out for an ear thermometer, which was very easy to use, but required you to buy little plastic sheaths that fit over the tip or it wouldn't work - the kids found out if you aim and hit the release button the sheaths will fire like a little projectile (fun, but not terribly useful, if you're trying to take your toddler's temp and she's trying to shoot you in the forehead). This thermometer can be used either way, and also to detect the temp of objects such as bathwater. In ear mode it doesn't require extra parts and is a very smooth surface, so I feel it is easy to clean and disinfect. I only had small variances between ear and forehead mode, so I feel more confident that it is accurate. It comes in a nice little chamois bag to keep it clean. I wish I had found this 6 years ago when I had my first!

Bought this thinking it would be accurate and reliable. I took my temperature in my ear 6 times the exact same way and got all different readings from 85 to 106.7....

I have used this thermometer, and it is packaged well, has its own carrying/storage pouch. The directions are very clear and easy to understand. and can be used accurately right away. What I absolutely love the most is that this is a dual thermometer. Depending on if the sick person is asleep you can take the temperature either way with a head scan or by ear if sleeping on the side without disturbing the rest. Although great for the sleeping, cranky baby, this is just as wonderful for a child through adult. I would suggest that the lens be wiped so that no oily skin residue stays on the the lens for continued accurate readings

I absolutely love this thermometer. It came in a cute bag which was in a cute box. It is light and fits perfectly in my hand. It only takes 3 seconds to get a reading by forehead which is perfect since my son is a year and a half and too mobile right now to sit and wait for a reading. I was a bit confused on how to use it at first, but the directions are SO easy to follow and answered all of my original questions. So my advice is just to read the directions and try it out a few times so you know exactly how to use it when you need it :)The screen is easy to use and I love how you can choose between object, forehead, or ear. I also love the option to turn sound on and off in case my son was to be sleeping or didn't like the sound.
