I see a lot of negative reviews. Are these really that bad?

It's not that they are bad, it's that for those that have loved the Jabra 65t series they are disappointing.  The 65t had a molded shape that fit nicely in your ear, allowing you to have good seal while wearing them comfortably all day.  We were looking for the 75t and 85t models to maintain that design while improving on features.  They both sound better than the 65t but the new shapes end up being a disappointment in different ways.

The 75t model sound better than the 65t and are smaller, however they removed that molded design, relying more on the suction of the ear gel to keep things in place.  This means they don't stay in quite as well when working out and hurt your ears when wearing for longer periods of time.  They're intentionally going for the seal to provide the passive noise cancellation, something I found just fine on the 65t already.

The 85t model tried to hold onto a molded design a bit better, and the ear gels have an elliptical shape that fits nicely, but in order to provide the active noise cancellation they had to make the ear buds much taller than the 65t.  You especially notice this when wearing a winter hat, as they stick out beyond your ear and get pressed into the eat tightly by a hat.  And the active noise cancellation on these wasn't worth the extra size.

I would love something in the shape of the 85ts with the improved sound experience, but without the extra height/size.  Oh, and also with the Active waterproof rating.  Alas, that doesn't exist so I'm holding out until somebody makes a better ear bud.

Question 2

There was mention of an update so the left earbud can be used on it's own, is this true?

I have not found any update information that mentions the Jabra left earbud can function alone.  I tested it after reading your inquiry, and I can assure you that the left earbud needs the right ear bud.  Only my right earbud functions independent of the left bud.

Question 3

When running can you leave the case at home and still listen to music? Or do you need to bring the case everywhere while using them?

Hi, Dear. By the word "case" you meaning the charger case. Well, the question is "YES" you can run without the case; the case will only work for storage and charging. so if you have enough battery on the earbuds you should be fine to go for running and leave that case at home.

Question 4

If I turn off the source music and set the buds on the table do they continue to use the battery? How do you turn the buds off?

There is a power button on each bud.  If you turn off one or the other button by holding the button for 3 seconds they go off.  I always put mine back in the case when I'm done.
