Product Description Help pugilist Wade Hixton prove himself the finest of 9 fighters in this fantastic boxing title for Game Boy Advance! Features over 2,000 frames of hand drawn cell animation, more than any other GBA boxing title. Earn cash, purchase new moves and even bribe fighters to take a fall for you in the ring! From the Manufacturer Poor Wade Hixton. On his way home from the monster truck rally in Albuquerque when his car manages to break down. Yet again. Luckily for Wade, he isn't far from the little known boxing town of Big Piney. And this is where our adventure begins. Help Wade fight his way through eight opponents on his quest to fix his car and get back home. Counter Punch is a non-linear boxing adventure game that lets you star as the dumb witted Wade Hixton. But it doesn't end there. On your journey through Big Piney you'll meet the local towns folk, learn new moves, payoff thugs to lend a helping hand a whole lot more. In other words, it be real fun I gar-ron-tee!

Review Who's Wade Hixton? Think of him as Mike Tyson without the psychotic chemical imbalance, but with the gameplay that'll happily remind you of Punch-Out!! Although Wade has less than 10 opponents (and you'll have to fight many more than once if you want to make some dough), the game's open structure is inviting. Roam around town and fight for cash, answer the call of your beeper (where you get money for winning under certain conditions), or pay off allies to intercede on your behalf during the middle of a bout. Along the way, Wade Hixton will entertain you with its colorful art style and amusing dialog. It's not often these days that a developer treats the GBA not as an afterthought, but gives us a title that's solidly entertaining.Rated: 7.5 out of 10Editor: Matthew KatoIssue: May 2004Subscribe to Game Informer -- Game Informer Review See more

Do all of you people really believe this is a 5 star game?
OK, let's get it out of the way. Yes, this game is great looking. It is not only very flashy with large cartoon looking characters and backgrounds, but it has style too. The game has a lot of personality. It even sounds good, with a bit of digitized voice, and decent music & sound effects. The little story is kind of funny, but its more goofy than funny. This game does not look or sound cheap. The play control is tight, with good response, and natural button choices (buttons on the left punch with your left arm, etc). And, oh yeah, it's kind of like Punch-Out! There are 3 save game slots to keep your record and money. But this is still a $20 game and they had to cut corners somewhere. Well, actually I don't know if they HAD to, but they did. This game is very short and can be beaten with relative ease, in the first setting, with the exception of the final boss, Don. That guy is quite hard. The other thing is that while the control is tight, it is also pretty shallow. You have six basic punches, but very little distinguishing one from the other. Anything a left punch will do, a right punch will do as well. The super moves you can buy are not very impressive, but they help improve the depth a bit. Maybe some people out there would stay interested in this game for dozens upon dozens of hours. I am not one of these people. It's a good game, buy it if it sounds good to you. But it's only a real deal at $20. You can think of it as a really flashy skin put on old Punch-Out! gameplay. Or you can think of it as an incredibly shallow fighting game, that is also very pretty. Chances are you'll start out the former and end up the latter. But, I still say someone in the mood for handheld arcade boxing will enjoy this.

Best Punch-out clone, ever.
There have been a couple of Punch-out clones and pseudo-sequels - like Powerpunch II, etc. This is the only one that's any good. Fantastic art design, unique fighters that have different styles of fighting and patterns and a very speedrun capable game. High Replay value and responsive controls. If you loved Punch-Out! or more appropriately Super Punch Out! and the arcade games(the game is really closer to thosethan the NES game) you'll definitely like this. If you don't like Punch Out!'s style of arcade boxing, this won't change your mind any.

FINALLY ...A GAME AS GOOD AS THE CLASSIC
i was waiting forever for the release of this game....and finally i have to say once i got my hands on it, it was well worth the wait. pure simple punch-out style fighting mixed with a hilarious story and unbelievable abimation. i definiftly recommend this game for die-hard 80's punch out fans. my son also loves playing, so i would recommend it for kids too.... does anyone know who the maker of the game is? i'd like to find out when they're going to make a sequal

This is now one of my FAVE games of all time!
I've never been a huge fan of this type of game, but I was intrigued by the depth of the characters and their beautiful artwork. I also wanted to see how the genre had evolved since the days of Super Punch Out and let me tell you that I was not disappointed - this game rocks! The game has real depth, although it's as simple to play as one of those incredibly catchy Flash games that you always see getting sent around - like that fabulous Dancing Peanut one!Anyway, all I can say is that you MUST try this game. I normally play my games on XBox and PS2 and am generally put off by the GBA's lack of processing power, but this game really pushes the wee box to it's limits with addictive gameplay that wil have you coming back again and again and again. In short, go and get it - you'll not regret it!

One of the Best Handheld Games Ever Made
This is the game Punch-Out fans have been waiting for. It has all the quick-reflex fun and quirky personality of the old Nintendo classic, updated with fantastic hand-drawn animation and light RPG elements that extend the gameplay. The character design is wonderful, the writing is funny, the gameplay is perfect. Even the music is good. At 19.99, this is the bargain of the year. I can't over-emphasize how great this game looks. You've never seen anything like it on a handheld console screen.By the way, this is the first video game I've ever ordered from Amazon. I ordered it because a certain enormous Video Game store chain (same initials as Eloping Baboons) has decided not to carry it. That company's buyer is, apparently, an idiot. Thank you, Amazon, for making such a great game available!

The most fun you can have just throwing something
Got this for a holiday and it was great fun. The whistle works well but not when you are in the pool. in fairness its not designed for this. You can throw it a little way even up to the advertised distance with a good are. Young kids can use this aswell as its size was ok for my 7 year old. If you do use in a pool, do not squeeze it constantly as it will start to split by the whistle. i have seen this happen on two different howlers of this size. you dont really need to as it still flies well without squeezing out the water. I guess one squeeze at the end of the day would be ok. we used this nearly every day for 10 days and i would recommend to anyone.
