desertcart.com: Superman: Doomsday: 9781401266660: Jurgens, Dan: Books Review: Good ending - Good ending to the Death of Superman series. I enjoyed it start to finish. The final part of the series is solid. Review: An interesting follow up to the Death of Superman - This book serves a few purposes narratively. It gives us a rematch between Superman and Doomsday, the monster who killed him. It explores the effect Superman's death had on him and the fear he must now battle to face Doomsday again. And it gives you the origin story of Doomsday. If you wanted the answers, here they are. In a way this is the last hurrah for Doomsday as a major threat. After this story he started to suffer villain decay and became nothing more than simply another brute that could give Superman a good fight. Which is funny, because as this story establishes, the threat that Doomsday presents should really be the next level above that, a genuine threat to Superman's life and the lives of many others since he comes back stronger each time he's defeated. But his menace remains intact in this story so if you want one last good Doomsday tale, here it is.

Really Good
This makes nice bookends for the death of Superman series. Has both the origin of Doomsday and two sequels. One thing I didn't like was for the origin of Doomsday, the author either doesn't understand how evolution works or doesn't care. The way evolution is shown to work in this story is not at all how it actually works. But that quibble aside, the story is great. Very enjoyable.

Doomsday Round 2 - A Much Needed Do-Over
As one other review notes, Amazon incorrectly lists this as the first story in the Death of Superman saga, when it is actually the last book. To make matters more confusing, a lot of reviews talk about this as if it deals with the actual death of Superman (spoiler it does not); not sure if they didn't read it, or if it's a glitch linking that other product. All of that said, this final book is a coda to the death and return of Superman storyline. He was defeated, he was supplanted by pretenders, and then in the last volume he returned triumphant. But this final story caps everything off by making Superman go head to head with Doomsday, the monster that killed him and put the Last Son of Krypton in the dirt. While the story seems unnecessary at first glance (since we've sort of seen this before), it's arguably a much needed second round to the Doomsday fight because it provides (1) great thematic closure to see Superman actually fear something and have to face it head on again, which is rare for such a powerful hero, and (2) a much needed backstory for Doomsday to both explain his origin and make him that much more frightening. While the death of Superman was iconic, it really was missing an explanation for who or what Doomsday was, since he showed up out of nowhere as a masked/suited monster and just started wrecking sh*t. This second round between Supes and Doomsday was like the writers had a lightbulb go off and realize that they could make Doomsday an actual, impactful villain by explaining who or what the heck he is. It might be too little too late for some readers, but for me it was a fun and entertaining way to wrap up the storyline. If you're a reader brushing up on Superman lore, this is definitely needed to finish up the story of his iconic death.

Loved reading it, could not put it down
I am a huge superman fan, and I remember when the "death of Superman" was first published (I have lots of issues from then) I loved how this helped fill in some of the gaps and information about that saga and I highly recommend it to any other fans. It can be much cheaper to buy these compendiums than searching all the individual books to get the whole story, plus it just puts it in nice order to read. very sturdy paper, good binding- nice quality art and printing. And of course-- the subject is just "Super".

Doomsday is back!!
Always loved the Doomsday story lines or anything to do with Doomsday. Bought this book so I can sell the individual books themselves but still have my collection in a way. It came fast and well packed. I should have kept it in it plastic wrap to last longer, ha. But a great book to have.

After the events in Zero Hour, here comes back a villain... Or two? To haunt the always-painfully-difficult life of the Man of Steel. This story gives us a plot twist about Doomsday and it's whereabouts. The force of destruction meets the master mind of evil and together they are up to rule the galaxy. Alas! Superman and a baby shall stop this evil scheme. If you want to know how... You must read!

Awesome omnibus, too bad it wasn't added to the death & return of Superman omnibus, but that one is already a thick book🦸
