Good value / small group use / portable for those up to 220-lbs.
I bought this after reading many of the reviews which "sunk the deal for me". My review does include some of the other comments in a synopsis review:1) Very well constructed. Outside diameter is: 14-1/8" --- Inside diameter for the "waste catch" is 12-1/8". The actual inside diameter goes almost to the outside diameter, but the top rim with small inside shelf of the inside has been created as a resting place to hold the seat. Inside the unit, there is a bucket with a handle. This allows one to put a plastic liner that hopefully is taller than the unit and can fold back to the outside of the frame and then place the seat down atop the shelf. The seat does shift a bit - okay with me - don't plan to be bouncing up and down or squirming around during this activity. The seat is adequate for most average-sized folks. If you have a large derriere, well.............. Again, sit still and aim where you are dropping a load. The seat is not as large as the standardized toilet seat, nor is the opening oval, but round. The seat has no cushioning for "inquiring minds that want to know". The lid, as in the photo shown by Amazon, is (2) parts: A removable insert that holds the toilet paper and the top that should be replaced onto the unit after use to avoid sharing the odors of waste.2) The unit is about 16" tall including the lid. The standard development of any seat or bench starts at 16"-high and usually goes to 20"-high with the standard at 18"-high. So, depending on whether you are in height, small, medium, or large or beyond you can then guage. You can always put this atop of a small frame made out of 2x4's or 4x4's to accommodate your personal needs.3) Included with unit is one packet of a blue-gel like material that is found in the bottom of porta-potties, like those at any public event. I will be looking for a supply of that so I can just put a small amount in the bottom of each plastic bag everytime I remove the waste bag and replace it. It is amazing in its ability to curtail odors. If you ever run out, coffee grounds atop the offending waste will also work in a pinch and then throw paper towels over that. I suspect, the successful use of this product depends on a regular daily replacement maintenance for use by 2-4 people. According to the other reviewers, the waste bags may be placed in any regular campground trash can.4) Since this is somewhat a "closed" system (bag and remove - put lid into place), I plan to use the receptacle as a storage space on the way to my destination to consolidate my non-renewable carryied load. I plan to wash and sterilize the unit after every trip and therefore, eliminate potential for contamination. The stuff I will be transporting in it will be within its own plastic bag and will be those items that will not be part of my return trip / or tools / personal toiletries, etc. No edibles.I am somewhat a tall person (5'-9") but all leg. All-in-all, I think this will meet my non-heavy use needs. I occasionally car camp and volunteer within my county's emergency communication mobile unit which does not have potty facilities. This is a good-value solution for non-heavy use that is quick and portable, easily cleaned and stored, protects one roll of toilet paper or two or three half-rolls or less and easily stored allowing for items to be stored within it.5) I have no idea what weight load it will tolerate before crushing. I suspect it works to about 220-lbs. (suggest reviewing manufacture's specifications) and then beyond that, one might need another solution to their need. For anything beyond that, build a wood frame to straddle rocks and then place an standard toilet seat on that. There is a very nice toilet seat with a handle on this site for camping that is advertised on this site, but then, you must figure out how to get rid of waste without contaminating the environment from multiple/mass use.

Could easily be better.... but it'll do for what ya gotta doo....
Pros:Small, excellent for all the reasons you'd need a bathroom and not want to use a public one, especially right now.Extremely lightweight when empty, perfect for people who need a potty but couldn't wrestle around one of the larger camping ones.Easy to care for and sanitize, making it a good option for an in-room quarantine potty if used with good-quality sanitation bags and wiped down often.Comfortable enough for it's intended purpose, even if sitting for a little while.Excellent for the fact that it can be used with either wet or dry systems. Those of us who have a humanure system (like Joseph Jenkins) can use this system while out and about, to add to our compost when we return.Cons:Is prone to rolling around and blowing away when emptySeat is NOT cushioned at all, it is simply rounded molded plastic.Lid does not screw down, so I drilled a couple holes and fitted it with small bungee cords. The TP holder is just a disk with a well. I will drill a couple holes and add a bungee hanger and a TP holder so that I can hang it anywhere nearby. As it's designed, you can set it within the upturned lid but there's still not anything to secure the TP.Definitely not intended for a heavy-weight user, and could be difficult for someone with certain mobility issues. I wouldn't let a child under the age of five or six use it alone. Also might be tricky for someone who's over six feet tall, unless it's sitting on a raised platform (two foundation bricks would work fine).Neutrals:Worth putting a bit of weight (rocks or sand) in the bottom under the bucket, if setting up outdoors. Then, set up against a tree and strap it to the tree with a load strap for extra security. HOWEVER, it's lightweight so you can't tighten it or you'll crush it against the inner bucket, so that's JUST to hold it in place. Another thing is that you could use a few tent stakes to hold it down via the hole in the outer shell's bottom.Comes with a sample packet of smelly stuff, but doesn't come with TOILET PAPER. LOLIf the manufacturer were to change the molds where the lid screws on, the TP holds in the well, and the whole thing was made of a little bit heavier weight plastic, it would be pretty darn good. As it is, it'll....doo. ~THC :)~THC

Does the job
Worked fine for poop. We used Costco garbage bags and filled it with peat moss. The seat felt a little flimsy for 300lb people but still worked. The toilet paper holder was useless. Overall, when our nature's head failed, this guy did the job.

Not bad for a basic camping Crapper.
This is the 4th porta-potty I have purchased. I tried the folding seat with bag, the Luggable Loo (toilet seat on 5 gal bucket), and the Tri-to-go folding tripod toilet. They all had flaws that I hope to remedy with this one. The Luggable Loo is the best of the first 3 I tried -- very stable and comfortable and easy to clean. It had 2 drawbacks -- the toilet seat did not come close to sealing smells inside, and it was bulky to transport even for car camping. The tripod thingy was a bit small even for me (5'2" 100lb female) and got condensation on the seat when covered with a plastic bag to contain any smell. Plus, by the time you pack toilet paper, cat litter, doodie bags, etc. for the folding tripod toilet, you might as well have something larger. The toilet seat on a folding frame with a bag was also just plain ugly to have sitting around anywhere. I want to be able to keep this inside my tent for nighttime emergencies without looking and smelling horrible. So I got this one because (1) lid fully covers top openings, hopefully keeping most smells contained (would be better, as others have mentioned, if it screwed on for transport and had a carrying handle, but I will have to live with it), (2) I can store the bags, toilet paper, and cat litter or other absorbent material of choice inside for transport (I have a fabric bucket that fits neatly inside this hassock and when I arrive at my campsite, I'll just pull it out and set all the supplies next to the toilet -- note that I removed the plastic toilet paper holder, as I don't see the point -- won't your toilet paper get condensation on it in there? And wouldn't the underside of the toilet paper holder get pee on it? Yech.), and (3) it looks okay in my tent (I used some Goo Gone to remove the extra-sticky label residue and actually made an attractive carrying bag that can be flipped over to double as a table skirt to disguise this bad boy in my tent - voila, extra seat or table. Yes, we've gone way beyond normal here, but I'm done with ugly camping sheet. I have not even used this thing for it's intended purpose yet, but I anticipate that it will be my best/favorite Crapper.Oh, I should point out that, yes, it's not quite chair/stool height, so bear that in mind. And it is cheap/thin plastic that had lots of burrs from the plastic mold that the mfr did not bother to remove before shipping. I removed them with my finger nails, but 2 seconds of clean up at the factory would have improved my happiness with the mfr. All in all, I'm not going to make my own toilet and this is a great price for such a necessary convenience. If it doesn't work out, I'll let you know.

Just as expected
I researched (for MANY hours) about the toilet options for an undeveloped lake lot we have. We have a beach, and if we stayed overnight we would be "camping" in a tent. We are a 2 minute drive from a nice gas station (with a bathroom), but needed something at the lake lot until we build. Since I hope it won't be a permanent situation (having no bathroom) and we do plan to build, I didn't think it was worth the time/trouble and the inve$tment to buy and set up something like an incinerator-type toilet (would need a generator for that, too!) or a composting toilet. That left us with the portable bucket type options or a flushable toilet that needs solution and has many parts. Due to the simple fact that nobody wants to empty the waste out of the flushable toilet (I wouldn't even want to do that if I was the only one to use it) and many people will potentially be using ours, we opted for the bucket type. The style that looks like a toilet seat with legs all had terrible reviews citing poor quality plastic and there were many reports of collapse with users well under the weight limit. The other type was literally a ring you put on a bucket that you buy separately. I saw one of these at a big box store and was surprised as how cheap if felt - thin molded plastic and it wasn't all that cheap for what you are only buying. Lastly, I read that the bucket "odors" are not at all contained in the "add-a-ring-to-the-top-of-a-bucket" option. This option that we ended up buying, seemed to be a reasonable price, was said to contain odors (though we do not intend to use a bag more than once - and plan to dispose of each bag immediately after each use), and this one also has a toilet paper dispenser. I have read that people use the unit with the lid on as an extra seat while camping - it certainly seems sturdy enough for even large/heavy people, but the concept is a little too gross for me. Having said that, the unit is very sturdy, that is what I was most concerned about. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the molded plastic could be thicker/more substantial, though it is certainly adequate (and we haven't officially used it yet) - and because bags that go with this (have to buy separately) are quite expensive at two dollars each or more! Other users - I have read - use heavy duty garbage bags with clumping kitty litter. That is quite inexpensive and it could be used multiple times before having to change the bag. I purchased about 20 bags, but plan to try the kitty litter option after the disposable bags run out.
